BIOGRAPHY

Born on December 21, 1995, Malik Taylor has etched his name in the annals of American professional football. Today, he serves as a wide receiver for the renowned New York Jets, a team in the National Football League (NFL). However, his journey through the ranks of professional football is a story of talent, resilience, and determination.

Taylor’s sojourn into football began at Ferris State where he played college football, garnering a commendable reputation for his savvy skills on the gridiron. He ended his college career with an impressive record of 121 receptions and 2,091 yards. It was evident that Taylor was ready to make a significant impact in the world of football. Indeed, his exceptional performance earned him All-GLIAC honors in his junior season.

However, amid an ascending career trajectory, Taylor’s senior year was cut short by a season-ending injury. Nonetheless, this setback did not dampen his spirit or his passion for football. Undeterred, Taylor persisted, proving that he was not the type to bow down to adversity.

Taylor dipped his toes in the professional arena when he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The undrafted player joined the team on April 27th, demonstrating that talent could not go unnoticed. However, on May 14, 2019, he was waived.

Undeterred by this setback, on July 19, 2019, Taylor signed with the Green Bay Packers. After being waived on August 31, his resilience shone through yet again when he was signed to the practice squad on September 1. By September 5, 2020, the world had caught wind that Taylor had made the 53-man roster. He later made his NFL debut with the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1.

Taylor’s first career reception was a 20-yard catch on a 4th down against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4. His first NFL touchdown, though, came in Week 7 when he faced off with the Houston Texans.

As fate would have it, he found a home with the Packers when he signed a one-year exclusive rights-free agent tender with the team on May 21, 2021. However, he was placed on the injured reserve later that year on December 24. Taylor accepted the Packers tender offer on April 18, 2022, and it seemed like he would spend the foreseeable future with the team.

However, after being waived due to an injury on August 17, 2022, and subsequently placed on injured reserve, he was released on September 15. Not to be counted out, Taylor made a comeback when he was signed to the New York Jets practice squad on December 29, 2022.

The future held promise for Taylor, who later signed a reserve/future contract on January 9, 2023. His journey with the Jets hit a minor setback when he was waived again on August 29, 2023. However, Taylor was re-signed to the practice squad on September 12. Later, on November 6, he was elevated to the active roster. Displaying hope and belief in his potential, Taylor inked another reserve/future contract on January 8, 2024.

Despite a series of untimely injuries and setbacks, Malik Taylor is a tale of resilience and dedication. His story is a testament to young athletes everywhere that adversity can be a stepping stone to greatness, rather than a roadblock. His journey serves as an inspirational example to those aspiring to make a mark in the landscape of American Football.
