Jalen Nailor's Biography

Jalen Rasheed Nailor, known as “Speedy” in the professional football fraternity, is a renowned American football wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). Born on March 2, 1999, Nailor hails from a humble background and has made significant strides over his football career, right from high school to the college level and now as a professional player.

Nailor’s athletic attributes manifested clearly during his tenure at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. His high school years imbued a love for football and track and field athletics. His speed on the tracks earned him four state titles and marked the onset of an illustrious football career.

Throughout his high school tenure, Nailor was one of the best performers, accumulating 28 touchdowns and over 2,000 yards. His final year being the most impressive, as he scored 12 touchdowns, recorded 41 receptions and crossed over 807 yards. However, his high school career saw a significant jolt when Arizona State, where he originally committed, saw the termination of coach Todd Graham’s services. Being a three-star recruit, Nailor, therefore, decided to venture into the prestigious Michigan State University.

The subsequent years at Michigan State University saw Nailor’s tremendous growth as a player. In 2020, he topped the Big Ten Conference in yards per catch and was also the second-best player the following year. Nailor’s most memorable moment that year came in a game against Rutgers when he ended with a career-high 221 yards with three touchdowns. Altogether, he was part of 28 games throughout his university career, with outstanding tallies of 86 receptions, 1,453 yards and 12 touchdowns. Following the end of an eventful college career, Nailor established his readiness for the 2022 NFL draft.

The Minnesota Vikings, in recognition of his potential, drafted Nailor in the sixth round (191st overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. He quickly made his mark in the professional circuit when he made his maiden career catch in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints. The 13-yard fake punt from Ryan Wright turned out to be the start of a promising NFL journey. In Week 17, against the Green Bay Packers, Nailor notched his career’s first touchdown reception, a 47-yard pass from Kirk Cousins. That game ended with him catching thrice for 89 yards.

In his debut campaign, Nailor appeared in 15 games and recorded nine receptions for 179 yards and one touchdown. His versatility saw a significant contribution to the special teams, making him an integral part of the Vikings. However, adversity struck on September 21, 2023, when Nailor was placed on injured reserve following an injury. Showing commendable resilience, Nailor eventually overcame his health issues and was re-activated to the team on November 4.
