BIOGRAPHY

Ethan Pocic, pronounced POH-zik, is an accomplished American professional football player who was born on the 5th of August, 1995. Pocic currently demonstrates his skills as the center for the Cleveland Browns, a team participating in the National Football League (NFL). His impressive track record can be traced back to his college days, where he excelled at playing football for the renowned LSU Tigers. Showing great versatility, he also held responsibilities at the guard position.

In the second round of the intense 2017 NFL draft, he was snatched up by the Seattle Seahawks. Pocic’s relentless display of talent and commitment did not go unnoticed when the SEC coaches crowned him as the second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection in 2015, his junior year. More accolades were bestowed on him during his final year in 2016, as he was listed as a finalist for the prestigious Rimington Trophy. The Associated Press named him as the first-team All-SEC selection in that very year.

Pocic’s reputation assured him an invitation to the Senior Bowl, where he demonstrated his battling prowess, helping the South clinch a narrow victory over the North at 16-15. During this event, he met with the San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, and Baltimore Ravens. His pursuit of excellence led him to the NFL Combine where he completed all the combine and positional drills, demonstrating his fitness and readiness. He attended LSU’s Pro Day, though he opted to only run positional drills for scouts and representatives.

Pocic was highly sought after by expert NFL draft analysts, who projected him to secure a spot in the second or third rounds of the 2017 NFL draft. Apart from establishing himself as the second-best center in the draft on lists compiled by reputable platforms such as NFLDraftScout.com, Sports Illustrated, and ESPN, he was highly ranked by acclaimed NFL analysts. Bucky Brooks regarded him as the fourth-best interior offensive lineman, while Mike Mayock positioned him as the fifth-best in the same category.

The Seattle Seahawks saw immense potential in Pocic and signed him on as their second-round (58th overall) selection during the 2017 NFL draft. October 22, 2017, marked his first professional start against the New York Giants and proved to be a promising beginning. Pocic was diligent in replacing injured players in his rookie season, starting five games at left guard and six games at right guard, and allowed only two sacks. His strong rookie season led to his inclusion in the 2017 PFWA All-Rookie Team.

Pocic’s career faced a slight hiccup in 2019, when he had to step back due to a back injury that resulted in his placement on the injury reserve in October. He, however, bounced back soon and was practicing with the team by the end of November, and returned to active play in December.

Giving his dedication a stamp of approval, the Seahawks re-signed Pocic in 2021. That season, he was off to a rough start due to a knee sprain that landed him until mid-October. Come April 2022, he was set on a new journey as he signed up with the Cleveland Browns. Pocic excelled at his role and was named the team’s starting center for the season. Unfortunately, a knee injury in Week 11 led to another stint on injured reserve. Nevertheless, his resilience shone through again as he bounced back to the active roster by December.

Continuing his successful run, in March 2023, the Browns reposed their faith in Pocic, signing a lucrative three-year, $18 million contract extension with him, proving his position as an indispensable asset on the team. Ethan Pocic consistently embodies perseverance and determination, allowing him to overcome obstacles and remain a highly respected player in the NFL.
