Kellen Mond's Biography

Kellen Louis Mond was born on June 22nd, 1999. He is known for his contributions to the sport of American Football as a professional quarterback. As a free agent, he has had the opportunity to showcase his talent in various teams, leaving a lasting impression on each one.

Kellen began his football journey in high school, starting at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas. His natural knack for the game perpetuated him to transfer to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida in his senior year. Kellen cemented his place as a natural football phenomenon when he passed for 1,936 yards with 20 touchdowns, further rushing for 775 yards with 18 touchdowns. This impeccable performance earned him a five-star rating, and he was subsequently ranked as the number one dual-threat quarterback in his class by the Rivals.com recruiting network.

Following high school, Kellen committed to Texas A&M University to play college football, being taken under the wing of head coach Kevin Sumlin. In 2017, Kellen began as a backup to Nick Starkel, but after Starkel’s injury in the first game of the season, Kellen seized the opportunity to shine, becoming the starter of the team.

The following year, despite apprehension about a continued rivalry between Kellen and Starkel for the starting position, Kellen proved his indispensability as the leading quarterback under the new head coach, Jimbo Fisher. His leadership led the Texas A&M Aggies to achieve an 8–4 record that year, earning them the 19th ranking in the regular season College Football Playoff rankings. A highlight of the season was a nail-biting, seven-overtime win against their SEC rival, LSU. This game not only led the Aggies to victory but also set records for the most points ever scored in a game in the FBS era.

While Kellen’s performance in the 2019 season did not meet the immense expectations placed on him, he came back stronger the following season, achieving career-highs in pass completion percentage (63.5%) and yards-per-attempt (7.6). Under his leadership, the Aggies closed the 2020 season with a 9–1 record and fourth place in the final AP Poll.

Mond cemented his place in history, joining the ranks of Tim Tebow and Dak Prescott, as one of only three SEC quarterbacks to ever record over 9,000 career passing yards and 1,500 rushing yards. His spectacular performance didn’t go unnoticed as Mond was picked by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Despite significant hurdles, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Kellen still managed to make an NFL debut in a match against the Green Bay Packers. In this game, Kellen completed two of three passes for five yards. However, his journey with the Vikings was short-lived, as he was waived in August 2022.

Kellen then went on to join the Cleveland Browns the following day but was again released within a year. After a brief stint on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad and a short tenure with the New Orleans Saints, Kellen Mond’s bold career displays the resilience and talent of this outstanding athlete. Despite football’s unpredictable nature and Mond’s future as a free agent, his significant contributions to the sport remain a powerful testament to his ability and dedication.
