Elijah Campbell's Biography

Elijah Campbell, born on the 24th of August, 1995, is a professional safety position player in the esteemed National Football League (NFL). Hailing from the Miami Dolphins, he is the pride of his parents, Jamal and Denna Hickman. His journey in the world of football started amidst the spirited grounds and cheering crowds of Saint Paul Central High School situated in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Distinguishing himself as a promising player, he represented his school in both football and track and field.

His high school years marked the humble beginnings of his professional athleticism, as he lettered in both playing fields. Notably, in 2012, he was instrumental in propelling his team to an impressive 8-1 record, showcasing his exceptional skills by amassing 1,002 rush yards and punching in 18 touchdowns. On the defense, his senior year was marked by 69 tackles and six interceptions, signaling his talents as a two-way athlete.

Campbell embarked on his collegiate career at Iowa Western Community College in 2014. His time as a Reiver only raised his football pedigree; he played an invaluable role in the team’s undefeated season, eventually competing in the highly touted Junior College National Championship. Following this success, he transferred to Northern Illinois University the next year, demonstrating his growth and finesse on the field as a Huskie. However, the pursuit of further development saw him transfer once more in 2016 to Northern Iowa where he spent two seasons as a Panther.

His remarkable talent remained unnoticed by few, leading him to sign with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. Despite the Browns ultimately releasing him before the regular season’s start, Campbell bounced back, signing with the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) in November of the same year. Though he gave an impressive performance for the Iron throughout eight weeks, the subsequent termination of the AAF in April forced another change.

Not long after, in October 2019, Campbell found himself drafted as the fourth overall selection in the defensive backs phase of the 2020 XFL Draft by the DC Defenders. His tenure was short-lived, playing in only four games before league operations were halted, prompting his contract’s termination.

Undeterred, Campbell signed with the New York Jets’ practice squad in November of 2020. His persistence paid off in December when he was escalated to the active roster for the team’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Merely days later, he was secured a position in the active roster. His time with the Jets ended in August 2021 when he was waived.

Quickly picked up by the Miami Dolphins, an injury led to his placement on injured reserve at the end of November. Nevertheless, in the subsequent year, Campbell signed on again with the Dolphins in March. As the league year rolled over, the Dolphins tendered him in March 2023, and he re-signed for his fourth season with them in the following year.

In contrast to the turbulence of his professional life, his personal life exhibits stability and happiness. In the summer of 2021, he wedded his girlfriend, Anisse, in a serene ceremony in Ham Lake, Minnesota, following their engagement in July 2019. The couple welcomed their first child, Zakai, into the world on April 21, 2018.
