De'Von Achane

De’Von Achane, born October 13, 2001, is an esteemed American football player best known for his role as the running back for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the professional league, he was a standout player at both high school and college level, amassing an impressive plethora of personal accolades and team victories.

Achane, pronounced as duh-VON AY-chan, was born and raised in Missouri City, Texas. His journey into football began at Thurgood Marshall High School, where he was a sensation on the field. He chalked up an impressive 4795 rushing yards along with 87 touchdowns throughout his high school career. His performance and skill level in the game made him a top-ranked 4-star recruit, placing him at 96th overall in the nation. Besides football, Achane was also an accomplished track athlete. In 2020, he was awarded the coveted Texas Gatorade Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year, demonstrating his versatility as an athlete.

College football was a natural progression for Achane. On December 18, 2019, he committed to play for Texas A&M University. Despite being a true freshman in 2020, he played an integral part in six games as a backup to prominent player Isaiah Spiller. His debut year saw him rush for 364 yards on 43 carries, resulting in four touchdowns. He also accumulated 97 receiving yards and scored a receiving touchdown.

A turning point in his college football career was his recognition as the MVP of the 2021 Orange Bowl, where he ran a massive 140 yards on just 12 carries, resulting in two critical touchdowns. This achievement established him as an up-and-coming star in the sport.

Year 2021 marked his sophomore season, whereby he transitioned to a larger role in the Texas A&M offense. A key highlight of his career was when he returned a kickoff for a whopping 96 yards, tipping the game towards Texas A&M’s favor against Alabama, the top team at the time. That year, Achane broke the 1000 yards mark in all-purpose yards and led the SEC in per attempt rushing yards.

By 2022, he was the go-to running back for Texas A&M, setting a career milestone with his new record of 1,102 rushing yards. Despite his size not being on par with the typical standards set for NFL running backs, his incredible speed and profound ability for inside running caught the attention of NFL recruiters. His phenomenal 40-yard dash timing was the fastest among all the running backs in the draft.

The Miami Dolphins recognized his immense talent and potential and selected Achane as the 84th pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. His NFL career started on a high note when he finished with 203 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards, and four touchdowns in week 3 against Denver Broncos, helping his team to chalk a massive 70-20 victory. For this performance, he was awarded the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 3.

However, adversity struck when Achane suffered a knee injury after a victory over the New York Giants in week 5. The injury was severe enough to place him on the injured reserve list on October 11, 2023. But, displaying the determination that marks a true sportsman, Achane was back in the game by November 18. This demonstrated his resilience, talent, and passion for the sport he excelled in, marking him as a player to watch for years to come.
