Durham Smythe, born on August 9, 1995, is a celebrated American professional football player currently plying his trade as a tight end for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL). His journey through the challenging world of football has been nothing short of admirable, from high school in Belton High School to college at Notre Dame, and finally, to the greens of the NFL.

Durham’s football career took off at Belton High School, where his talent and potential were honed to prime him for a fruitful career in football. After graduation, he remained in the academic field, but his focus shifted primarily to football at the prestigious Notre Dame. In the four years he spent at Notre Dame, his growth was evident. Durham recorded an impressive total of 28 receptions, clocked 381 receiving yards, and had six receiving touchdowns. Notably, his propensity for excellence never waned; instead, it multiplied, catching the attention of NFL scouts.

The year 2018 marked a pivotal point in Durham Smythe’s football career, as he was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round with the 123rd overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. This pick was acquired from the Cleveland Browns in the Jarvis Landry trade. Given his first opportunity to play in the big league, Durham made his NFL debut in Week 1 of the 2018 season in a match against the Tennessee Titans. In Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts, Durham recorded his first two career receptions. In his debut season, he garnered a total of six receptions for 50 receiving yards.

The subsequent year carried more opportunities for the budding footballer. During the entirety of the 2019 season, Durham Smythe appeared in all 16 scheduled games, impressively starting 14 of them. Showing his worth once more, he ended the season with seven receptions for 65 receiving yards.

The 2020 season brought Smythe’s first professional touchdown, a moment every professional footballer cherishes. This was a four-yard reception against the New York Jets, achieved during the 6th week of the season. Smythe continued to grow in his career with a total of 26 receptions, 208 yards, and two touchdowns over 15 games in the 2020 season, starting 13 of them.

In the next season, 2021, Durham once again showed his mettle. He displayed his skill in all 17 games, starting in 12 of them. The season ended with 34 receptions in his name and 357 receiving yards. Not resting on his laurels, Durham continued to improve in the 2022 season, resulting in a re-signing with the Dolphins on a new two-year contract on March 22, 2022. Showing the Dolphins hadn’t been mistaken in their decision, he wrapped up the season with 15 receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown.

In April of 2023, the Dolphins openly showed their faith in Durham Smythe’s abilities. Durham was granted an extension to his contract that would run through the 2025 season.
