Dawson Knox

Dawson Alan Knox, born November 14, 1996, is an accomplished American professional football tight end who has made a significant impact on the National Football League (NFL). His football journey, which began during his school days, has seen him evolve his skills and navigate the challenges and triumphs to secure a prominent position in the NFL.

Raised in Brentwood, Tennessee, Knox’s fascination with football started during his time at St. Paul Christian Academy and Brentwood Academy. Playing as a wide receiver and quarterback for his high school football team, his senior year was cut short due to an ankle injury that limited him to only one game performance. Despite the setback, he remained undeterred, joining the University of Mississippi, commonly known as Ole Miss, as a walk-on fullback in 2015.

Knox’s tenure at Ole Miss ran till 2018 during which he recorded 39 receptions for 605 yards. After successful junior season in 2018, he took the decisive step to forego his senior year to enter the highly competitive 2019 NFL draft. This proved to be a wise choice as he was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round with the 96th overall pick, inking his rookie contract on June 14, 2019.

September 22, 2019, was a milestone in Knox’s career when he caught his first NFL touchdown in a match against the Cincinnati Bengals. His commendable performance, catching three receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown, played a pivotal role in the Bills’ 21-17 win. Though his rookie season seemed to be a whirlwind of performance swings, Knox managed to record 28 of 50 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns.

However, the turbulent 2020 season added another layer of struggle. Knox tested positive for COVID-19, landing him on the reserve/COVID list on October 24. Through resilience, he bounced back on November 5 following his recovery. Despite missing several matches, he performed well in 12 matches, starting seven, and secured 24 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns. His impact was especially felt in the Wild Card Round victory over the Indianapolis Colts and the subsequent AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

His determination and resilience were rewarded in 2021, making him a vital part of the Bills’ passing attack. Knox bagged two receiving touchdowns against the Houston Texans and three receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown in a victorious game against the Chiefs. A noteworthy achievement was his record-breaking performance on Thanksgiving Day match against the New Orleans Saints, where his two touchdowns overtook the Bills franchise record for most receiving touchdowns in a season by a tight end.

Recognizing his exceptional talent, the Bills signed Knox to a four-year $53.6 million extension on September 7, 2022. This propelled Knox to the league of top-paid tight ends. Despite a wrist injury in October 2023 that resulted in a brief placement on injured reserve, Knox finished the 2022 season with 48 receptions for 517 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.

Off-field, Knox’s faith as a Christian is a significant part of his life. A socially conscious individual, he partners with P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative, a charity founded by former Bills punter Brian Moorman, to support through various initiatives.

Knox’s family, particularly his younger brother, Luke, has been an essential part of his journey. Also a football player for the Ole Miss Rebels, Luke tragically passed away in August 2022. In the midst of grief, Knox found solace in personal trainer Alex Seefeldt. The couple got engaged on November 30, 2023, announcing the happy news on Instagram on December 3.
