Cethan Carter's Biography

Cethan Carter, born on September 5, 1995, in Louisiana, United States, is a well-respected figure in the world of American football, having built an impressive career as a tight end. He initially excelled in athletics during his school years, making his mark as a formidable player at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana. Beyond football, Carter also contributed significantly to his school’s basketball team, leading them to a state quarterfinals appearance in 2012 with a 21–11 record.

As a fluent player maneuvering dynamically between the positions of tight end, H-back, and fullback, Carter caught 23 passes for 418 yards and aced 5 touchdowns in his senior year alone in 2012. This star performance earned him Honorable Mention All-State honor. His noteworthy contributions turned crucial as it led Rummel to secure a flawless 14–0 record and win the Louisiana Class 5A state championship in 2012.

Post his high school triumph, Carter progressed to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, representing the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 2013 to 2016. Balancing his passion for football and academics, he obtained a major in criminology and criminal justice while playing an active athletic role.

His freshman year saw Carter playing in 13 games, starting 6, with 10 passes caught for 127 yards. His impactful performance made him an inevitable choice for True Freshman All-American by 247Sports and Big Ten Conference Honorable Mention All-Freshman honors in 2013. In 2014, due to a midseason foot injury, Carter ended up missing four games but started 8 out of the 9 games he played. In these games, he caught 6 passes for 98 yards and 1 touchdown.

The 2015 season launched with Carter missing the initial two games but turned out to be a breakthrough year as he started the remaining 11 games of the season, catching 24 passes for 329 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adding to his versatility, he made school history by becoming the first tight end to score a rushing touchdown. For his stellar performances, he received Honorable Mention All-Big-Ten Honors by the media.

His last year, 2016, wasn’t without hurdles as he suffered an elbow injury midseason, causing him to miss almost four games. Despite this setback, Carter managed to start all 10 games he played in, catching 19 passes for 190 yards and 1 touchdown. The media and coaches honored his resilience and courage by naming him Honorable Mention All-Big Ten in 2016.

During his collegiate career, Carter emerged as a quintessential tight end, having played in 43 games, starting 35. He caught 59 passes that covered a total distance of 744 yards and included 4 touchdowns, making him the fifth highest in school history at reception by a tight end.

Considered the 16th best tight end for the 2017 NFL draft by NFLDraftScout.com, Carter started his professional football career signing with the Cincinnati Bengals on May 5, 2017, as a free agent post going undrafted. In 2018, he suffered a shoulder injury and was placed on injured reserve. However, he bounced back, scoring his first NFL touchdown in a Week 15 match against the New England Patriots on December 15, 2019. He was team’s core special teams player and accumulated 16 special teams tackles during that season.

Carter signed on a one-year restricted free agent contract with the Bengals in 2020 and a three-year contract with the Miami Dolphins on March 18, 2021. During his term with the Dolphins, he was unfortunately placed on injured reserve on October 8, 2022. Following his release from the Dolphins on March 7, 2023, Carter remains an esteemed free agent in the fast-paced football realm.
