C.J. Stroud's Biography

Coleridge Bernard “C. J.” Stroud IV, popularly known as C.J. Stroud, was born on October 3, 2001, in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Emerging as a professional American football quarterback playing for the Houston Texans in the National Football League (NFL), Stroud’s journey from his high school days to his professional career has been characterized by extraordinary success, impressive records, and unforgettable moments.

Stroud’s early life was fraught with challenges. As the youngest among four children, he witnessed the incarceration of his father, Coleridge Bernard Stroud III, serving a 38-year life sentence for various charges including kidnapping and robbery. The family was pushed into significant financial turmoil, living in a small apartment above a storage facility. Despite these adversities, Stroud began showcasing his talent as he joined Rancho Cucamonga High School.

In his senior year, Stroud’s impressive performance earned him the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin’s Offensive Player of the Year, having passed for 3,878 yards and 47 touchdowns. He was also named the MVP of the Elite 11 in 2019 and was selected to participate in the 2020 All-American Bowl. Stroud’s talent quickly gained recognition, and he was rated the third-best quarterback of his class by the time he completed high school, a significant increase from his initial 3-star recruit rating. Following his high school achievements, Stroud took the next step in his football career by committing to Ohio State University.

Stroud played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes, where he set multiple school records, including the most passing yards in a single game with 573. The talented quarterback was also the first player at Ohio State to throw six touchdowns three times and was named a Heisman Trophy finalist in both 2021 and 2022.

Stroud decided to forgo his remaining college eligibility in early 2023 and pursued his professional football career by entering the NFL draft. In the 2023 NFL draft, he was selected second overall by the Houston Texans. With this pick, Stroud set another record as the highest-drafted quarterback in Ohio State’s history.

As a rookie quarterback for the Texans, Stroud showed exceptional leadership qualities and football skills. Despite facing losses in his first two games, he soon bounced back. Stroud set an NFL record by making 177 pass attempts without an interception. This stunning feat surpassed the previous record set by Dak Prescott. His rookie season saw him leading the Texans to a division title and playoff victory. He was awarded the Offensive Rookie of the Year for his commendable performance on the field.

Over the course of his rookie season, Stroud broke more NFL records and proved to be an extraordinary asset to the Texans. He became just the fifth quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 4,000 yards. Stroud even surpassed Andrew Luck’s single-game passing yard record for a rookie quarterback, passing for 470 yards in a 39–37 comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This game was the third instance in NFL history where a quarterback threw at least 470 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.

Despite suffering a concussion in Week 14 against the New York Jets, Stroud came back after two games. His return was impactful as he led the Texans to their first playoff berth since 2019. Even though his team lost against the top-seeded Ravens in the Divisional round, Stroud continues to display great potential and remains one of the most promising quarterbacks in the NFL.

Off the field, Stroud formed strong friendships with other athletes, such as Bryce Young, the Carolina Panthers quarterback. The duo was selected with the first two picks in the 2023 NFL draft, a testament to their tremendous talent and skill.

Stroud’s remarkable resilience despite his challenging upbringing, along with his unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence, have cemented him as a powerful figure to watch in American football. He continues to prove time and time again that he is not just a player, but a game-changer, setting both personal and NFL records. As the son of Coleridge and Kimberly Stroud and the younger brother to two older brothers and one older sister, Stroud’s journey is an inspiring testament to his family’s resilience and the invaluable role of sports in shaping character and destiny. His faith remains a central part of his life, and he identifies as a Christian. Through every success and setback, Stroud is a compelling embodiment of determination, talent, and tenacity.
