Bryan Corey Anger, born on October 6, 1988, is a distinguished American professional football player and punter. He is currently enlisted with Dallas Cowboys, a premier team with the National Football League (NFL). His career trajectory has also seen stints with renowned teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Houston Texans. His professional journey with football began with his years at the California Golden Bears, where he garnered immense attention through his prowess and skill. Eventually, this culminated in his selection in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bryan’s interest in football took root at Camarillo High School, where during his senior year, he boasted an impressive 41.8-yard average. He managed to down 11 punts inside the 20-yard line, while achieving 42 receptions covering 678 yards, contributing to six touchdowns. Such performances earned him titles like SA Today All-American, EA Sports All-American, All-Far West team by SuperPrep, Prepstar All-West Region and Cal-Hi Sports first-team All-State honors. Rivals ranked him as the No. 2 punter in the nation, thus paving the way for a scholarship from the University of California, Berkeley.

The stint at Berkeley proved eventful and quite rewarding for Bryan. As a redshirt freshman, he posted a commendable 43.1-yard punt average and managed to down 26 punts within the 20 marks. He had remarkable games against Stanford University with a 75-yard punt and a record career-long 76-yard punt. Other notable games include those against Arizona State University, where he achieved a 72-yard punt. However, he also experienced setbacks in games against Michigan State University, where he dealt with a blocked punt.

Bryan’s growth as a junior player was phenomenal. He set the school single-season record for punt average at 45.6 yards which ranked him second in the Pac-10 and sixth on the national scale. During his senior year, he managed a 44.2 punt average. He made his mark again as the first player in school history to rake in first-team all-conference honors for three consecutive seasons after Alex Mack did the same from 2006 to 2008. His stunning performances earned him an invitation to the 2012 East–West Shrine Game.

The journey that Bryan took from his freshman to his senior year was remarkable, to say the least. He conquered punt averages, downed innumerable punts, and played all 51 games without a miss. Drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012, he ascended to become the highest drafted punter since 1995. His exceptional performances continued throughout his tenure with the Jaguars, where he made impressive strides in terms of punting statistics and league rankings.

In 2016, Bryan signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, outshining Jake Schum to become the preferred punter. He concluded the 2016 season with an exceptional performance against the Carolina Panthers which led him to be named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Following that outstanding season, he was offered a five-year contract extension by the Buccaneers.

Bryan continued to perform exceptionally during his time with the Buccaneers. He carried this form to his time with the Houston Texans following his release by Buccaneers in 2019. However, a few months after his signing, Anger was released yet again on August 30, 2019. Notably, he made a quick return to the Texans after the team released Trevor Daniel and continued his journey with a three-year contract extension signed on December 28, 2019.

In 2021, Anger was released by the Texans but signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys. He concluded the season by punting 65 times for 3,143 yards and a 48.4 average. This remarkable performance led to his first selection for the Pro Bowl in 2022, and he was also named second-team All-Pro. On March 22, 2022, Bryan re-signed with the Cowboys on a three-year, $9 million contract.

Throughout his career, Anger’s powerful style earned him the nickname ‘Banger’ among his Jacksonville teammates. His selection by the Jaguars led to certain controversies, considering the team passed over future Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Russell Wilson. However, despite the external criticism, Banger has proven himself to be an asset to each team that he has played for, showcasing exceptional skill and commitment to the game.
