Brett Maher is an American professional football player who has made notable strides in the NFL as a placekicker. Known for his skillful kicks and exceptional ability to perform under pressure, Maher has managed to make a name for himself in the sport despite the challenging levels of competition.

Born on November 21, 1989, in Kearney, Nebraska, Maher has always been passionate about football. In his early years, he attended Kearney High School in Kearney, Nebraska. Here, he began showcasing his talent and potential in the football field, emerging as a star player on his high school team.

After graduating high school, Maher took his talents to the University of Nebraska. Known for its competitive football program, the university gave Maher the opportunity to flesh out his abilities and gain significant exposure on a broader level. Brett Maher’s professional career began when he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Jets in April 2013. Although he was waived by the Jets later that year, this didn’t kill his determination to carve out his place in the NFL.

Maher later spent several years in the Canadian Football League (CFL), proving himself as a reliable and successful kicker. Given his impressive performances in the CFL, he sparked the interest of the Dallas Cowboys who signed him in 2018 to take over for Dan Bailey, the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history. Throughout the 2018 season with the Dallas Cowboys, Maher played in all 16 games, scoring 80 field goals out of the 97 attempts he made – totalling to approximately 122 points overall. In 2019, the performance level seemed slightly inconsistent compared to the previous year. Maher missed ten field goals, a notably high number which eventually led to his release from the team in December 2019.
