Born on March 6, 1994, Alejandro Barrett is a highly accomplished professional American football player fashionably known as a devastating defensive end. Carving his path with the San Francisco 49ers of the prestigious National Football League (NFL), Barrett has evolved beyond his college days and successfully transitioned into an inspirational figure in professional football. From Mesa, Arizona’s Desert Ridge High School to San Diego State, his journey to the 49ers profoundly traces a life dedicated to pursuing a passion for football.

As a young aspirant at Desert Ridge High School, he was formidable on the football field, earning First-team All-State honors twice, delivering performances that punctuated his promising future in the sport. Besides, his athletic prowess also extended to track and field where he achieved distinct recognition during his high school years.

Taking his football dreams to San Diego State University, Barrett represented the esteemed San Diego State Aztecs from 2013 to 2016, after being redshirted in 2012. His first season was a positive outing as he managed to record eight solo tackles, seven tackle assists, and three sacks in just 12 games. The 2014 season saw him start all 10 games, recording admirable statistics with 21 solo tackles, 18 tackle assists, three sacks, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble.

Excelling throughout his tenure with the Aztecs, he became a key force in the defensive line. He earned Honorable Mention All-Mountain West honors in 2014, and emerged as the First-team All-Mountain West in 2015 after playing 14 games and accumulating dynamic stats. Constantly upping his game, Barrett posted impressive figures in the 2016 season, leading him to be recognized as First-team All-Mountain West. His contribution was integral to the Aztecs, becoming the first player from the University to secure First-Team All-Mountain West multiple times. The talented athlete also emerged as a leader, captaining the team in his senior year in 2016.

Barrett was projected as the 43rd best defensive end in the captivating 2017 NFL draft by NFLDraftScout.com. A testament to his growth, he won accolades totaling 91 solo tackles, 78 tackle assists, 19 sacks, 2 interceptions, 8 pass breakups, and 3 forced fumbles during his college career. His 19 sacks are memorable and tie for the fourth most in the school’s history.

After the draft, Barrett signed as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions in May 2017. While with the Lions, he spent a substantial amount of time on the practice squad. He was also signed to a reserve/future contract with the Lions in early 2018.

Barrett went on to play for the newly formed Alliance of American Football (AAF) where he signed with the San Diego Fleet for the 2019 season. Displaying commendable performances, Barrett recorded 15 tackles and 2 sacks in his 8 games before the AAF Haltered football operations.

Following the short-lived stint with the AAF, Barrett joined the Oakland Raiders early in April 2019 but was waived during the final roster cuts in August. In November 2019, Barrett found a new home when he signed with San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad.
