Alex Akingbulu

Alex Akingbulu is an accomplished American football offensive tackle who has garnered acclaim through a combination of commendable sporting performances and an indelible commitment to his academic pursuits. Born on December 28, 1997, of Nigerian descent, Alex has navigated his career in a manner befitting his heritage, demonstrating a potent blend of raw talent, determination, and grace under pressure.

Akingbulu carried his love for football into his years at university where he played collegiate football for both the Fresno State Bulldogs and the UCLA Bruins. His time at UCLA was marked by stellar performances which firmly established him as a force to be reckoned with on the field. Upon transferring to Fresno State, Akingbulu continued to demonstrate a high level of prowess in the sport, persistently improving his skills and contributing significantly to the successes of the Bulldogs.

Parallel to his vibrant collegiate football career, Akingbulu was industrious off the field as he strived for excellence in the academic realm too. In 2021, he added a significant feather to his cap when he graduated from Fresno State with a Masters in Education (M.Ed.). Not one to rest on his laurels, Akingbulu continued his academic journey at the same institution, pursuing an MBA, a testament to his dedication to personal and professional growth.

In the professional football arena, Akingbulu’s prowess was recognized by the Philadelphia Stars of the United States Football League (USFL). The Stars signed him as a free agent on May 31, 2022. While at the helm as the left tackle for the Stars in five games, he exhibited a level of dedication and skill that earned him a formidable reputation. However, the Stars lost the championship game to the Birmingham Stallions in a tight competition that ended 33-30.

Subsequently, on July 31, 2022, Akingbulu signed up with the Washington Commanders. But in a turn of events, he was waived during the final roster cuts on August 30. Without missing a beat, he was re-signed to the team’s practice squad the next day. His remarkable consistency on the practice squad led to his promotion to the active roster on January 5, 2023.

Akingbulu’s stint with the Commanders wasn’t always steady. On August 29, 2023, he was once again waived only to be re-signed to the practice squad. Despite this setback, he remained resilient and determined, eventually being signed to the active roster again on December 30. Unyieldingly battling against odds, he held on to his position on the team until an injury led to his waiving on August 6, 2024.

Apart from his football career and academic pursuits, Akingbulu’s talent extends to music as well. He showcased his creative side by forming a Nigerian/African-American fusion music trio called “Young Determined Nigerians” (YDN). In this group, Akingbulu took to the stage during the football offseason, performing live and proving that he is a man of multifarious talents. Whether professionally playing sports, excelling in academics, or captivating audiences with his music, Alex Akingbulu remains focused and consistent, reinforcing his identity as an individual to be admired.
