Alvin James “A.J.” Moore Jr, born on December 15, 1995, is a known personality in the American football landscape, acclaimed for his role as a safety. Currently, he is a free agent, available for the taking to top-flight teams that are keen on tapping his invaluable skills and enriching their roster.

Moore’s journey into the world of American football started in Bassfield, Mississippi, where he was born and bred. His love for football grew with him through the corridors of Bassfield High School. Here, he honed his talent, playing dual positions – safety and running back – for the school’s team, the Yellowjackets.

His outstanding performance during his senior year earned him coveted recognition. The Clarion-Ledger included him in their first-team All-State after successfully making 132 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and rushing for five touchdowns. This extraordinary display helped Bassfield achieve a 15-1 record and clinch the Class 2A state championship. It was during this time that Moore formed a solid bond with Cornell Armstrong, a childhood friend, and teammate who would later join him with the Texans.

Upon graduating high school, Moore continued his football journey at college with the Ole Miss Rebels. He spent four seasons with the team, participated in 39 games, and demonstrated a remarkable knack for defense, with 132 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 5 passes deflected to his name. His senior year witnessed him start all 12 games for the Rebels, securing 48 tackles, a fumble recovery, and three passes deflected.

His illustrious journey continued when Moore signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2018. However, despite his potential, circumstances led the Patriots to waive him during the preseason’s last cuts. Unfazed, Moore was quickly claimed off waivers by the Houston Texans in September 2018.

Moore’s NFL career kicked off with the Texans’ season opener against his previous team, the Patriots. He completed his rookie season playing all 16 regular-season games, primarily on special teams, scoring an impressive 11 tackles and recovering a fumble. The subsequent season saw him similarly contribute mostly to special teams and defense, playing all 16 regular-season games, recording 14 total tackles, and participating in the team’s postseason games.

The 2020 season saw Moore take on greater roles and responsibilities with the team. He was named the team captain by the Texans for the season. Nevertheless, an unfortunate hamstring injury placed him on injured reserve in late September 2020. After a period of recovery, Moore came back strong and was activated in mid-November 2020. He achieved his first career sack on Philip Rivers of the Indianapolis Colts, although it came in a losing effort.

On March 17, 2021, the Texans posed a restricted free agent tender to Moore, to which he responded by signing a one-year contract in early April. However, injury woes struck again, and Moore found himself back on injured reserve in early September. He was reactivated the following month.

March 21, 2022, saw Moore sign a one-year contract with the Tennessee Titans. However, he was added to injured reserve once again in mid-September 2022. Moore returned to the Titans on July 26, 2023, but was waived less than a month later on August 20.

In addition to his own career, Moore’s legacy extends to his family. He has an identical twin brother, C.J. Moore, who was also a defensive back for the Ole Miss Rebels and the Detroit Lions. The two had the unique experience of playing together in the same defensive backfield for the Rebels.
