Miles Emmanuel Bridges Sr., born on March 21, 1998, is a celebrated figure in American professional basketball. He is presently a key player for the Charlotte Hornets, a team that competes in the esteemed National Basketball Association (NBA). However, his pathway into the sport winds its way through a journey of accomplishment and learning that began in Flint, Michigan, his birthplace. Brought into this world by Cynthia and Raymond Bridges, Miles was exposed to the game at a tender age of two by his father, a two-time state champion at Flint Northern High School. Bridges attended Woodland Park Academy, located in Grand Blanc, Michigan, for his middle school education, where he developed his basketball skills practicing at a local YMCA with future teammates and coach Keith Gray.

Bridges’ freshman year found him immersed in varsity basketball at Flint Southwestern Academy. His obvious talent as a 6 ft 4 in, 14 years old center propelled the team to the regional semifinals with a 17–6 record. This stellar performance led to an athletic scholarship offer by Oakland University by the end of the year. However, Bridges was on the move again, this time to Huntington Prep School in Huntington, West Virginia, where he continued to excel, lead, and captivate attention.

Between sophomore and senior year, Bridges transferred from Flint Southwestern Academy to Huntington Prep School. His decision to change schools was driven by the advice of Javontae Hawkins, a former Flint Powers Catholic all-state guard. In his new environment, he shone brightly, maintaining impressive statistics, achieving remarkable records, and participating in high-profile tournaments. He carried these accomplishments through to his senior year. During this time, he garnered numerous accolades and was recognized as a five-star recruit and one of the top players of his class.

After declining offers from several prestigious schools, he announced his decision to join Michigan State University in 2015. Here, he rapidly cemented his reputation as a standout player, overcoming injury setbacks, and accumulating awards like the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year watchlist and Big Ten Freshman of the year. Despite having the opportunity to turn professional, Bridges decided to stay for his sophomore season, sparking high expectations for his team.

A prominent loss in the 2018 NCAA men’s basketball tournament signaled the end of Bridges’ collegiate basketball journey. Despite the upset, Miles was among the top picks in the coveted list, selected by the Los Angeles Clippers who later traded him to the team he still plays for, the Charlotte Hornets.

Bridges’ NBA career took off rapidly. Only a year after his rookie season, he made his mark on the court by participating in and shining in the Slam Dunk Contest. By 2020 he was presented the Rising Stars Challenge MVP award for Team USA in a game against Team World.
