BIOGRAPHY
Malik Monk is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was drafted 11th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Hornets after playing one season of college basketball for University of Kentucky.
A native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Monk started his basketball career at East Poinsett County High School where he was part of a team that won three state championships. He was named Gatorade Player Of The Year and Mr. Basketball USA in addition to being listed as a McDonald’s All-American prior to college enrollment.
Monk enrolled at Kentucky, where he became a star player and led the Wildcats to their first Elite Eight appearance since 1998. During his freshman year he established himself as one of college basketball’s most exciting players and scored 47 points against North Carolina on December 17th, 2016; it remains one of UK’s highest single game point totals ever recorded. His final stat line included impressive averages 19.8 points per game (PPG), 2.5 assists per game (APG) and 2 rebounds per game (RPG).
By season’s end Malik declared for the NBA draft which made him eligible even though he only played one season due to NCAA rules regarding professional contracts with student athletes aged less than 20 years old upon entering school. As expected by many scouts, Monk went off early in his rookie campaign averaging 6 PPG during October/November 2017 before eventually increasing that number later on throughout the year when given more minutes from Coach Clifford and teammates alike; ultimately ending up with an average 15 PPG over 75 games played with 24 starts included..
The 2018-19 season began with new expectations but unfortunately due to injuries plagued Monk throughout much of that year reducing him down to five appearances in total before undergoing surgery on both ankles which ended up keeping him out until late March 2019 manning just 57 total contests while posting 6 assist 4 rebound numbers along with 8 PPG respectively; these figures caused some concern among analysts questioning whether or not this was just another setback early in what otherwise should be a promising career trajectory ahead..
