Jaylen Nowell is an American professional basketball player currently playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Washington Wizards. He was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 43rd overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft and immediately traded to Washington.

Nowell was born on July 7, 1999 in Seattle, Washington and grew up in Garfield High School. He had a highly successful high school career, leading his team to two state championships and earning a spot on USA Today’s All-USA First Team as well as being named Gatorade Player of The Year for Washington State following his senior season.

Following his high school success, Nowell signed with the University of Washington where he continued to impress – averaging 16 points per game over two seasons while helping lead them to an NCAA tournament berth during his sophomore year before declaring for the draft after just two years at college. His performance earned him All-Pac 12 first team honors both years as well as Pac-12 Freshman of The Year honors during his freshman season.

Nowell made quite an impression during Summer League play before signing a four year deal with Washington – showing off both shooting touch and defensive prowess averaged 19 points per game while shooting 47% from three point range which helped him earn MVP honors while leading them win their summer league championship game against Golden State Warriors at Las Vegas’ Thomas & Mack Center.
