BIOGRAPHY

Bryn Jerrel Forbes, born on July 23, 1993, is an accomplished American professional basketball player. He is best known for his time spent with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the National Basketball Association (NBA). However, before Forbes made his mark in the professional basketball sphere, he was already notable within the college domain, having played basketball at Cleveland State and Michigan State University (MSU).

Forbes quickly established himself as a skilled three-point shooter and was known to play both the point guard and shooting guard positions competently. His sheer talent and unwavering determination were evident from an early age. In his junior year, Forbes had an impressive average of 13.6 points that paved the way for Sexton to conclude the season with a stellar 26-2 record, which subsequently clinched a victory at the state championship.

Throughout his senior year at Sexton, Forbes averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. Together with players like Denzel Valentine and Anthony Clemmons by his side, Sexton emerged victorious at the back-to-back Class B State Championships in 2011 and 2012. It’s worth mentioning that Forbes made an impressive 60 three-pointers throughout his senior year and secured 19 points in the 2012 Class B title game. His remarkable performance did not go unnoticed; he was named a Lansing State Journal Dream Team member and was a Class B All-State selection for the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News.

Forbes’ basketball abilities transcended just his high school years; however, he did not initially attract the same level of attention as his peers, Valentine, and Clemmons. ESPN ranked him as Cleveland State’s third-best recruit in the 2012 recruiting class and gave him a two-star recruiting grade. Regardless of not being heavily recruited, Forbes was the 92nd best shooting guard nationally, the 77th best player in the Midwest Region, and the 11th best player within Michigan. It was Cleveland State that noticed his potential and offered him a slot on their team, an offer he accepted on August 4, 2011.

Forbes played his freshman year at Cleveland State, exhibiting stellar performance in the 32 games he appeared in, with an average of 12.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists within 28.3 minutes. This performance led him to being named 2012-13 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, placed on the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team, and made College Insider’s Mid-Major Freshman All-America Team.

Forbes continued his upward trajectory into his sophomore year and led his team, averaging 15.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 34.4 minutes. His performance helped secure a 21-12 record for his team and saw him rewarded with second-team NABC All-District 12 and second-Team All-Horizon League honours.

During his junior year, Forbes transferred to Michigan State, citing family reasons. Despite the big turnover from the previous season resulting in the loss of key team members, Forbes made his presence felt immediately, making invaluable contributions to the team’s performance. His record with Michigan State earned him accolades such as the USBWA All-District V 1st Team, Media All-Big Ten 2nd Team, Coaches All-Big Ten 2nd Team, and PIT All-Tournament Team.

Despite going undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft, Forbes continued to demonstrate his unwavering commitment to the sport. He joined the San Antonio Spurs for the 2016 NBA Summer League, signing on July 14, resulting in his NBA debut. He mostly played with the Austin Spurs, the NBA Development League, but still managed to shine in a game against Dallas Mavericks, scoring a career-high 27 points and leading the Spurs to a 102–89 victory.

Forbes continued to perform with the Spurs, earning All-NBA Summer League Second Team honours during the 2017 NBA Summer League. In July 2018, Forbes re-signed with the Spurs, continuing to score double figures in nearly every game he started. Forbes broke records in December of that year with his first-ever double-double, scoring a season-high 24 points and a career-best 11 rebounds.

On November 26, 2020, Forbes signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. On April 29, 2021, he scored a career-high 30 points against the Houston Rockets. He went on to surpass his career playoff high twice in the first-round series sweep against Miami Heat. Forbes’ efforts significantly contributed to the Bucks winning the 2021 NBA Finals against the Phoenix Suns.

But that was not the end of Forbes’ journey. On August 25, 2021, the relentless basketball player returned to the San Antonio Spurs and played 40 games before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Forbes has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the sport throughout his professional career, reinforcing his reputation as a steadfast and reliable professional basketball player.
