BIOGRAPHY
Roxanne Modafferi is an American mixed martial artist and professional wrestler currently competing in the UFC’s flyweight division. Born on September 24, 1982, in Winchester, Virginia, Modafferi began her career as a judoka before transitioning to MMA in 2003. She has gone on to become one of the most successful female competitors in the sport’s history.
Raised by loving parents who encouraged her to pursue sports from a young age, Modafferi played soccer for several years before finding her way into martial arts at age 12. After being introduced to judo by a friend’s mother when she was 16, she quickly rose up the ranks and went on to win multiple national championships as well as numerous medals at international tournaments such as the Pan-American Games and World Championships. It was during this time that she developed an interest in grappling and ultimately decided to switch over to MMA after graduating high school with honors.
Modafferi made her pro debut in 2003 with RINGS USA and accumulated a 5-1 record over the next two years while also competing for organizations like Smackgirl and DEEP Jewels Japan Women’s Grand Prix along the way. In 2006, she made her move into The Ultimate Fighter world with an invitation from Spike TV where she became known for her wrestling skills despite being eliminated by eventual winner Tara LaRosa early on. Despite not winning TUF season 18 tournament title , Roxanne still left a lasting impression due to both skillset displayed throughout season 18 but also for willingness help others grow skill set throughout tournament .
Following The Ultimate Fighter stint Modaferri would become one of first women competitors signed under Invicta FC organization which allowed platform opportunity compete against woman best talent North America within 125 lbs weight class . During 3 year tenure within Invicta FC organisation Roxanne competed top names such Jennifer Maia , Vanessa Porto , Sarah D’Alelio amongst many others before making transition back over UFC organization 2014 .
