Rhys McKee is a mixed martial artist who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is currently signed to the promotion’s lightweight division and competed on Dana White’s Contender Series: Northern Ireland.
McKee was born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He began his training at the age of 16 at Ballysillan Boxing Club with coaches Dave Lee, Colin McFarlane and Dan Kavanagh. From there he went on to train in Muay Thai, Submission grappling and mixed martial arts at Jackson Blyton’s academy before eventually transitioning full-time into MMA after turning professional back in 2014.
Since then he has accumulated an impressive 10–2–1 record fighting for some of Europe’s top MMA organisations such as Cage Warriors and Bellator London alongside numerous other promotions throughout England, Scotland & Wales. In 2018 McKee had his most significant win to date when he defeated former UFC athlete Alex Lohore for the British Lightweight Title via unanimous decision victory crowning him champion of one of Europe’s toughest divisions. Later that same year later Rhys accepted an invitation to compete on season 2 of Dana White’s Contender Series: Northern Ireland defeating Theo Michailidis via rear naked choke submission early into round 2 earning himself a contract with the UFC – making him only the fourth Irishman ever signed by company president Dana White himself!
After being forced off due injury McKee made his long awaited Octagon debut earlier this year against English prospect Lerone Murphy which unfortunately ended prematurely due to an accidental illegal knee resulting in a No Contest however despite not getting a result from it this fight showed great promise from both athletes ultimately leading many fans & media alike believing that Rhys has what it takes compete amongst world class talent inside the cage proving once again why so many people have tipped him for success since day one!
With devastating knockout power combined with his slick jiujitsu skill set McKee certainly looks like one fighter you do not want to be standing opposite come fight night! With upcoming bouts booked for both Fight Island Abu Dhabi & Las Vegas USA we can’t wait to see how far “Skeletor” can go now that given chance amongst deep waters within world football premier organization; The Ultimate Fighting Championships
