BIOGRAPHY

Raphael Assuncao is a Brazilian mixed martial artist and one of the most accomplished athletes in UFC history. Born on July 19, 1982, in Brazil’s Parana state, Raphael began training at an early age with his father who was also an experienced MMA fighter. After seeing the success that his father had achieved as a fighter, Raphael decided to pursue a career in fighting himself. He began competing professionally at just 16 years old and quickly established himself as one of the top competitors in South America. In 2004 he made his UFC debut against Michihiro Omigawa which he won by unanimous decision over three rounds.

Since then, Raphael has become one of the most consistent fighters in UFC history having fought 20 times under their banner; more than any other active Brazilian athlete aside from Demian Maia and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira who are both former champions within the organization. He currently holds wins over some of MMA’s biggest names including Urijah Faber (twice), TJ Dillashaw (once) Eddie Wineland (once) Marlon Moraes (twice). His only losses within the promotion have been to current champion TJ Dillashaw twice and former champion Dominick Cruz once; proving how much respect he has earned among MMA fans worldwide since making his debut 11 years ago.

Outside of competition Raphael trains diligently with American Top Team where he is known for challenging teammates during sparring sessions while still displaying great sportsmanship after each session concludes; regardless if it was a win or loss for either side involved. This contributes greatly to maintaining the friendly atmosphere often found when two professionals train together while pushing them both closer towards their own respective goals that they strive to attain Meanwhile outside of training Rafael enjoys spending time with family going out fishing or hiking . Additionally it is not uncommon for him to be spotted visiting local schools giving lectures about persevering through hard times and advice about becoming successful as an athlete or anything else that you may set your mind on accomplishing

Through all this it’s easy to see why so many fans enjoy watching him compete inside and outside of The Octagon! The courage displayed along with constant improvement year-by-year makes him someone worth looking up too all around despite being 35 years old already!
