Ty Zentner's Biography

Born on July 7, 1998, Tyler Zentner, a well-known figure in professional American football, and particularly acclaimed for his punt-kicking skills. Zentner’s journey from the heartland of America, Topeka, Kansas, to the glitzy stadiums of the NFL is studded with hard work, perseverance, and undying passion for sports.

Growing up in the Midwest, Tyler Zentner’s first tryst with sports was at Shawnee Heights High School. A multitalented young man, he played not just football, but also soccer and basketball. He left a significant mark in all three domains. In his senior year, he earned all-state honors which was a testimony to his competence and skill in football. Putting on a commendable performance as a goalkeeper in soccer, he won two all-state honors. As a key player of Shawnee’s basketball squad, he led the team to a memorable victory in the Class 5A state championship in his senior year, earning a place in the all-state tournament team.

After an illustrious high school sports career, Zentner chose to nurture his talent in Football at Butler Community College. His freshman year at Butler saw him punt 14 times and land one of the three field-goal attempts. He continued to demonstrate his brilliance in the sport in the subsequent season, recording a 39.5-yard average at 64 punts and perfectly landing 28 inside rivals’ 20-yard line. He achieved nine successes on sixteen field-goal attempts, and a remarkable 31 out of 37 in extra-point endeavors. This sterling performance earned him a coveted spot in the first team all-conference honors as a punter.

After a fruitful stint at Butler Community College, Zentner transferred his allegiance to Kansas State. He played four impressive years at Kansas State, punting 127 times for 5,515 yards, with a punt average of 43.4 yards. In the capacity of a kicker as well, he delivered noteworthy contributions, successfully implementing 11 out of 12 field-goal attempts and delivering a perfect 37 out of 37 in extra point attempts.

Zentner’s career reached a crescendo in 2022 with his impressive performance. He punted 59 times, covering 2,625 yards at a phenomenal average of 44.5 yards per punt. As a team kicker, he held a perfect record- 31 successes on 31 extra points and 11 on 11 field goals. Zentner’s excellence was recognized when he was named to the Second team All-Big 12 that year and secured a spot amongst the top ten semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award.

Despite his collegiate success, Zentner was not picked during the 2023 NFL draft. Undeterred, he signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles on May 7, 2023. His association with the Eagles, however, was short-lived as he was released on August 19, 2023. He was quickly picked up by the Houston Texans on August 25, 2023, only to be waived again on August 29, and later re-signed to their practice squad. He was finally promoted to the active roster on September 13 but was waived on October 2.

In a dramatic turn of events, Zentner was signed to the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad on December 6, 2023, following an injury to their starting punter Ryan Stonehouse. His performance secured him a place in the active roster on December 11. His association with the Titans, however, ended on August 26, 2024.

On November 1, 2024, Zentner signed with the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad, a testament to his unwavering determination. However, the stint was short-lived as he was released on November 19, 2024.
