Troy Reeder's Biography

Troy Daniel Reeder was born on September 13, 1994, and is a well-known figure for being an American professional football linebacker. He holds an esteemed position for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). Before climbing up to this prestigious position, his journey in the world of football began from his college days playing for Penn State and Delaware.

Reeder hails from Hockessin, Delaware, and acquired his early education from Salesianum School, which also served as his initial platform in athletics. During his school days, he demonstrated exceptional skills in both football and lacrosse. His performance in football was quite remarkable as he was termed as the first team All-State for two consecutive seasons, playing at linebacker. This recognition came after his impressive stats of 96 tackles, a contribution of 60 solo and 3.5 sacks. His standout performances earned him the title of Delaware Defensive Player of the Year. Adding to this, he also played as the first team All-State at running back and contributed significantly with 1,154 yards and 18 touchdowns, guiding the Sallies to the glory of DIAA state championship.

His contribution to lacrosse was equally noteworthy. His talent earned him the designation of a three-time first team All-State selection, and he also won the state championship thrice. He initially planned on pursuing his collegiate sport career in lacrosse at North Carolina, but changed his decision because of his growing interest in football. During his recruitment process, he was regarded as a four-star prospect by ESPN.com and a three-star recruit by Rivals, Scout, and 247Sports. Reeder, despite having offers from multiple institutions including Miami, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Boston College, Rutgers, and Delaware, finally decided on Penn State to continue his football career.

His college career took off at Penn State, where he redshirted his freshman year before becoming the Nittany Lions’ starting middle linebacker the following year after Nyeem Wartman-White suffered a season-ending injury. His overall performance for the season was impressive, as he concluded it with 67 tackles as well his first interception from 12 games played. This performance won him a spot on the Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team. However, after this season, he decided to transfer to the University of Delaware.

After his transition to Delaware, Reeder made an immediate impact as the Blue Hens starting outside linebacker, and was second team All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in recognition of his performance. He earned a place on the first team All-CAA during his redshirt junior year after leading the team with 89 tackles. In his final collegiate season, he led the CAA with not just tackles, but also with 13.5 tackles for loss, gaining first team all-conference honors once again.

The narrative of Reeder’s professional career begins with his signing with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2019, and he made the team out of training camp. He marked his NFL debut by recording a single tackle on special teams against none other than the Carolina Panthers. His first career start was against the Seattle Seahawks, where he replaced Bryce Hager because of an injury and led the game with 13 tackles. He maintained his position in the starting lineup in eight out of the remaining 12 games of the Ram’s season. The rookie season concluded with a commendable performance of 58 tackles and two forced fumbles.

In 2020, he showcased his skills by recording 11 tackles along with his first career sacks in Week 5 versus the Washington Football Team yielding a 30–10 victory. In total, he participated in all 16 games of the Rams’ 2020 season, finishing as the team’s second-leading tackler with 81 total tackles.

He played a key role in helping the Rams reach Super Bowl LVI in the 2021 NFL season, registering two tackles in their victory against the Cincinnati Bengals. On April 12, 2022, Reeder signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. He later spent some time with the Minnesota Vikings after signing a contract with them on March 22, 2023. However, he was waived off by the Vikings on August 29, 2023. On August 31, 2023, Reeder was signed back to the Rams practice squad and eventually promoted to the active roster on September 9, 2023.

Reeder carries a rich legacy of sports in his blood as he is the son of former Delaware and Pittsburgh Steelers running back Dan Reeder. His mother, Cheryl, has also left her mark in the world of sports, having played basketball at Elizabethtown College and being a part of the 1982 team that won the Division III national championship. His brother, Colby, who also played football at Salesianum, transferred his commitment to Delaware from Iowa State University and continued to play as a linebacker. Troy’s decision to move to Delaware was significantly influenced by his brother’s choice to play football there.
