Trenton Cannon's Biography

Trenton Cannon, whose birth date is July 23, 1994, is a well-known individual in the world of American professional football. He predominantly performs in the capacity of a running back. As of now, he retains the free agency status. His football career took a serious leap when he was picked up by the New York Jets in the sixth round of the National Football League (NFL) Draft in 2018. Prior to making it to the NFL, Cannon had an impressive football career that started in Kecoughtan High School, followed by his time in Shepherd University and Virginia State University playing for their respective football teams.

The young star exhibited remarkable talent even during his high school days at Kecoughtan High School where he played impressively. After his tenure in Kecoughtan, Cannon got the opportunity to further nurture his skills in Shepherd University, where he played for a season.

From Shepherd, Trenton made a significant transition to Virginia State Trojans. It was here that his potential truly came into prominence. The 2015 season witnessed Cannon making 1,183 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. This was further amplified by nine receptions, thereby generating 182 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Riding on his 2015 success, Cannon performed even better in the subsequent 2016 season. Not only did he secure 1,214 rushing yards along with 18 rushing touchdowns, but he also managed 203 receiving yards from 18 receptions. His last season at Virginia State in 2017 was no less extraordinary. Cannon concluded the season with 1,638 rushing yards, 17 rushing touchdowns, 21 receptions for 225 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

His stellar performance at Virginia State led to his selection by the New York Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft. It was a significant moment as Cannon was the first player from Virginia State to be drafted since 1996, the year when Kelvin Kinney was picked. His NFL debut was marked by a match against the Detroit Lions where the Jets emerged victoriously with a 48-17 score. Cannon played an instrumental role in the victory with six carries for 15 yards and one six-yard reception. He scored his first professional touchdown during the 14th week against the Buffalo Bills.

Regrettably, Cannon suffered a career setback and had to be placed on injured reserve on November 1, 2019. He eventually got waived on August 3, 2020. However, Cannon’s talents didn’t go unnoticed and he was claimed just the next day by the Carolina Panthers.

Just over a year later, the Panthers waived Cannon on September 2, 2021. His resilience and determination landed him another opportunity as he was signed by the Baltimore Ravens less than a week later, only to be dropped on September 14, 2021. His journey continued as he was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco 49ers the very next day. Cannon’s tenure with the 49ers was a mixed bag, suffering a concussion in Week 13 and placed on injured reserve on December 11, only to be activated on January 29, 2022.

Cannon’s next stop was the Tennessee Titans on March 18, 2022. While he was released by the Titans on August 30, 2022, they moved him to their practice squad one day later. This was followed by a promotion to the active roster on September 12, 2022. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury during Week 2 and had to be placed on injured reserve on September 21. Despite the various ups and downs in his career, Trenton Cannon remains steadfast in his journey, reflecting a true sportsman’s spirit in American professional football.
