Joshua Kalu

Joshua Kalu is an American football defensive back from Houston, Texas, who played safety and cornerback. He attended Alief Taylor High School before joining Nebraska, where he competed from 2014 through 2017. Nebraska described Kalu as a versatile secondary player who moved from cornerback to safety before his senior season and was recognized for his physicality, speed and ability to contribute in multiple defensive roles.

Kalu entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans in May 2018. He initially spent time on the practice squad before being promoted to the active roster late in his rookie season. The Titans identified him as a defensive back capable of lining up at either safety or cornerback, while his early professional contributions came primarily on special teams. One of his best-known moments came in November 2019, when he blocked a late field-goal attempt against the Kansas City Chiefs to preserve Tennessee’s victory.

Kalu later had documented affiliations with the New York Giants, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders. Washington signed him in August 2023, released him during that month’s roster reduction, and brought him back to its practice squad on October 10, 2023. As of September 29, 2026, no current NFL team affiliation is established by the retrieved official roster and transaction sources, so his most recent verified status is a past Commanders practice-squad stint rather than current employment.
