He began his sophomore season in 2018 as a starter and had a significant contribution in Clemson’s victory at the College Football Playoff National Championship. In the 2020 NFL draft, Higgins made a commendable entry into professional football. He was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round with the 33rd overall pick and signed a four-year contract worth $8.6 million. In the same year, Higgins made his NFL debut against the Los Angeles Chargers and recorded his first three professional receptions for 35 yards against the Cleveland Browns. In 2021, Higgins completed the season with a more substantial 74 receptions for 1,091 yards and six receiving touchdowns in 14 games, an improvement over his rookie season. His commendable performance led the Bengals to victories against Tennessee Titans and the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round and the AFC Championship, respectively. In 2021, Higgins announced a jersey number change from No.85 (his current number) to No.5, his old college number. Although he couldn’t effect the change until 2023, he was motivated to build his unique reputation, apart from the comparisons to previous Bengals receiver Chad Johnson.
