Michael William Gesicki is a renowned American professional football player, born on October 3, 1995. Currently, he serves as a tight end for the Cincinnati Bengals, a team in the National Football League (NFL). Gesicki hails from the Manahawkin section of Stafford Township, New Jersey, and is a proud 2014 alumnus of Southern Regional High School. An exceptional athlete, Gesicki left an enduring mark on his high school’s sports history, setting records in basketball scoring (1,866 points), football catches (103) and receiving yards (1,817), and volleyball blocks (519).
During his high school years, Gesicki showcased his talent in football, basketball, and volleyball. He ended his high school football career as the Rams’ all-time leading receiver, amassing 1,817 yards over 103 receptions, with an impressive tally of 16 touchdown catches.
After high school, Gesicki joined Penn State, where he participated in college football from 2014 to 2017. His performance on the field was noteworthy, and he demonstrated exceptional skill as a receiver. In the Nittany Lion’s last three games of the 2016 season, Gesicki made his mark by scoring a receiving touchdown in each of the games, an impressive performance for an up-and-coming athlete.
In July 2017, Gesicki was included in the prestigious John Mackey Award watchlist. This award is bestowed upon college football’s most remarkable tight end, and it was a testament to Gesicki’s outstanding abilities. His performance during the 2017 season was excellent, with four games featuring multiple receiving touchdowns. Out of all the players in the Big Ten that season, his nine receiving touchdowns tied him for third place.
Gesicki rolled these undeniable talents into his professional career when the Miami Dolphins selected him as their second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Officially part of the NFL, he began with the Dolphins by signing a lucrative four-year contract, sealing the deal for $6.61 million, including $3.66 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $2.88 million.
In his NFL debut, Gesicki exhibited his talent with an 11-yard reception in a match against the Tennessee Titans. This promising beginning culminated in a commendable rookie season, in which he secured 22 receptions for 202 receiving yards.
As the 2019 season progressed, Gesicki recorded his first career receiving touchdown, a 11-yard reception from Ryan Fitzpatrick against the Cleveland Browns. This achievement was followed by an impressive performance against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he totaled six receptions for 82 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. His success continued in 2020 when he achieved over 100 receiving yards in a single game for the first time in his NFL career.
The year 2021 saw Gesicki continue to excel, with stellar performances against teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars. His consistent performance throughout the year resulted in a total of 73 receptions for 780 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
The Dolphins recognized his outstanding performance on the field and placed the franchise tag on him in March 2022. During the 2022 season, he showed his consistent performance with 32 receptions for 362 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.
Unfortunately, the team’s hopes were dashed in the Wild Card Round against the Bills when they experienced a 34-31 loss, despite Gesicki scoring a receiving touchdown.
However, this setback didn’t hinder Gesicki’s progression. In 2023, he signed a one-year deal worth up to $9 million with the New England Patriots. This signing saw him start in 10 games, a career-high for him, ending the season with 29 receptions for 244 yards and two touchdowns.
On March 14, 2024, Gesicki finally signed a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he continues to leave an indelible mark with his exceptional skills and outstanding performance in the world of professional football.
