Daijahn Anthony

Daijahn Nyckell Anthony, born on the 9th day of September in the year 2000, plays professional American Football as a safety for the Cincinnati Bengals, a team of the National Football League (NFL). Throughout his career, he played college football for three different teams; the Shepherd Rams, Liberty Flames and Ole Miss Rebels.

Anthony’s journey in football began early in his life in Henrico High School. Following high school, with his love and dedication for the sport, he committed to further developing his skills and potential by playing college football for the Shepherd Rams. As an eager freshman at Shepherd in 2019, his skill in the field shone through in ten game plays, with an impressive start in five. He delivered an exceptional performance, bagging 14 tackles, three pass deflections, and two interceptions.

Unfortunately, in 2020 Shepherd University cancelled its football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This turned out to be a season of standstill for Anthony, as he remained off the field. However, he remained steadfast. Proving his resolve in furthering his football career, he put his name in the NCAA transfer portal while the 2020 season of Shepherd University was effectively concluded.

His transfer led him to the Liberty Flames, a turning point in his career. During the 2022 season, in the ninth week, Anthony made a significant interception off of quarterback KJ Jefferson, which was crucial to Liberty Flames’ upset victory over Arkansas. His two-year tenure with Liberty, between the years 2021 and 2022, saw him appear in 21 games. His exceptional athletic performance overtime resulted in his achievement of 41 tackles with one and a half going for a loss, six pass deflections, and three interceptions.

By the end of 2022, Anthony entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal for the second time, a bold move revealing his intention to explore new challenges and his desire to continually elevate his competitive career. This led him to Ole Miss Rebels. Just two weeks into the 2023 season, Anthony stood out as one of PFF’s highest-graded safeties. In his winning performance against Tulane, he secured two tackles and two pass deflections. By the end of the season, his overall accomplishments included making 61 tackles, eight pass deflections, three interceptions, and a forced fumble.

Post the 2023 season, Anthony declared for the 2024 NFL draft, indicating his transition to a professional football career. He was also extended an invite to the prestigious 2024 NFL Combine.

His prowess and skill were recognized by the Cincinnati Bengals who selected him as the 224th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The selection slot was indeed acquired from a trade with the Houston Texans for Joe Mixon. In a dramatic Week 2 face-off against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bengals had an upper hand with a score of 25-23. With just 48 seconds left, on a high-stakes 4th-and-16, Anthony was covering Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice when he came in contact prior to the catch. This resulted in a pass interference call that led to the Chiefs garnering a game-winning field goal resulting in a close defeat for the Bengals with a final score of 26–25. Anthony indeed proved through this nail-biting showdown that he is a player of valour and mettle to be reckoned with in the field of professional American football.
