Shaquill Griffin is an acclaimed American professional football cornerback, best known for his time playing in the National Football League (NFL) for numerous teams, most notably the Seattle Seahawks and currently the Minnesota Vikings. Born alongside his fraternal twin brother Shaquem, also a professional football player, on July 20, 1995, in St. Petersburg, Florida, Griffin quickly took to sports, competing with his brother in track, baseball, and football throughout their youth.

Griffin attended Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was during this time that he honed his skills, gaining significant recognition as a talented football player. Griffin chose to study and continue his football career at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where he played with the Knights from 2013 to 2016. Despite receiving enticing offers from other colleges, including his dream team of the Miami Hurricanes, he decided to play with his twin brother at UCF. His dedication to the sport shone during his college years as he consistently recorded commendable performances, raising his profile as a promising cornerback.

Impressed by his dedication and achievements, the Seahawks selected Griffin in the third round (90th overall) of the 2017 NFL draft. Soon after he was offered a four-year contract worth $3.25 million. Griffin thrived as part of the Seahawks, adding his unique skills to a defensive unit colloquially known as the “Legion of Boom.”

Over the course of his rookie season, Griffin consistently showed his mettle, maintaining his position as the starting cornerback. During this season, he overcame various obstacles, including suffering a concussion, which only emphasized his dedication and perseverance. Griffin’s rookie season concluded with impressive statistics, including 59 combined tackles and one interception.

In a sentimental turn of events, Griffin rejoined his twin brother, Shaquem, in the 2018 season, when Shaquem was also drafted by the Seahawks. His performance peaked in the game against the Chicago Bears, where he recorded two interceptions and three pass deflections.

The 2019 season proved to be another landmark period in Griffin’s career. With a total of 65 tackles and 13 passes defended, he was named to the Pro Bowl, showcasing the recognition and respect he had earned in the football community.

In the 2020 season, Griffin showed notable progress, setting a single-season career-high with three interceptions. He maintained a consistently strong performance, with 63 total tackles and 12 passes defended in 12 games.

After his successful stint with the Seahawks, Griffin signed a substantial three-year contract worth $44.5 million with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March 2021. Despite suffering a back injury that placed him on the injured reserve list and his eventual release from the Jaguars in 2023, Griffin remained an in-demand player.

Griffin’s resilience was evident as he moved on to sign and play with the Houston Texans and shortly after, the Carolina Panthers. Finally, on March 19, 2024, Griffin signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
