Arik Armstead

Arik Armstead is an American professional football defensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Born November 15, 1993, in Sacramento, California, he attended Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove before playing college football at Oregon. Armstead also briefly played basketball for the Ducks before concentrating fully on football. At 6 feet 7 inches and 290 pounds, he combines unusual length with interior power and versatility along the defensive line.

The San Francisco 49ers selected Armstead in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent nine seasons with San Francisco, developing from a defensive-line prospect into a versatile contributor capable of rushing from the interior and setting the edge. The 49ers reached Super Bowl LIV during the 2019 season, and Armstead later became known for his leadership, physicality and community involvement.

San Francisco released Armstead in March 2024, after which he signed with Jacksonville. As of September 30, 2026, the Jaguars list him as an active defensive tackle, and the club’s 2026 depth chart places him atop the defensive-tackle position group. Armstead was named the 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, recognizing his community work alongside his football career.
