Rob Havenstein's Biography

Rob Havenstein’s name is well-known in American professional football, primarily as a well-established offensive tackle for the renowned Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). His path in professional football began back on May 13, 1992, the day he was born, signaling the arrival of a future sports personality who would make a substantial impact in the NFL.

Havenstein’s journey towards his professional career was marked by pivotal moments, a significant one being his commitment to the University of Wisconsin–Madison on October 21, 2009. His decision to join this university was followed by numerous offers from Power 5 teams, further solidifying his potential in the field.

During his time at the University of Wisconsin, Havenstein fortified his sporting profile by playing on the Wisconsin’s offensive line as a right tackle from 2010 through 2014. His performance was notable as he participated in 54 games in five years and started in 42 of those games. His sophomore year unfolded impressively as he played in 12 games in 2011 and maintained consistency in his game throughout his college career. By 2013, Havenstein’s efforts were recognized when he was named 2nd-Team All-Big Ten Conference by the media.

As his college career concluded in 2014, Havenstein’s hard work earned him recognition as a consensus 1st-Team All-Big Ten and 1st-Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. Not surprisingly, he was the only Badgers player invited to play in the 2015 Senior Bowl, an invitation he accepted with pride.

Havenstein was drafted into the NFL by the St. Louis Rams as the 57th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 draft. His rookie season bore witness to his prowess, with Havenstein starting 13 games at right tackle without allowing a single sack throughout the season. His remarkable performance placed him on Pro Football Writers of America’s All Rookie Team alongside his Rams’ teammate, Todd Gurley.

In the 2016 season, Havenstein made appearances in and started 15 games for the Rams. The following year saw some changes in his position due to the signing of Andrew Whitworth, which implied Havenstein’s move to guard. Still, following a trade of Greg Robinson to the Detroit Lions, Havenstein resumed his position as the Rams starting right tackle in 2017. He started 15 regular games and one postseason game that year.

By August 2018, Havenstein solidified his place in the Rams by signing a four-year contract extension. His performance that year, including starting in all 16 games, greatly contributed to the Rams winning 13 games and earning the second seed in the National Football Conference (NFC).

Under his guidance, the Rams saw their position strengthen by defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional Round and the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game. While the team did not emerge victorious in Super Bowl LIII, losing 13–3 to the New England Patriots, Havenstein’s contribution remained significant.

In 2019, Havenstein’s season ended prematurely due to a knee injury after starting the first nine games for the Rams. Despite this, he bounced back in 2020, playing in all of the Rams’ regular and postseason games.

The 2021 season was a glorious one for Havenstein, culminating in his triumphant win in Super Bowl LVI when the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23–20.

In 2022, Havenstein’s commitment to the Rams was extended with a three-year, $34.5 million contract, in which $24.1 million was guaranteed. He started in all 17 regular games that season, maintaining his form and proving his worth once again.

However, the 2023 season saw him listed as inactive in Weeks 8, 9, and 15 due to missing three starts. Yet, he played the other 14 games and the Rams’ 24–23 Wild Card Round loss to the Detroit Lions.

Now, with the retirement of Aaron Donald in March 2024, Havenstein stands as the last remaining Rams player from the franchise’s era in St. Louis. His journey from a college player to an essential cog in the NFL machinery demonstrates his skill, dedication, and determination to continue making an impact in the game he loves.
