Rashod Bateman's Biography

Rashod Bateman, born on November 29, 1999, has made a name for himself as an American professional football wide receiver and currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League (NFL). Demonstrating tremendous skill and determination, Bateman’s journey is a story of grit and tenacity.

In his early years growing up in Tifton, Georgia, Bateman’s talent and passion for football were evident. His prowess on the field was cultivated at Tift County High School, where he held an impressive record, particularly in his junior season, with 56 catches for 825 yards and five touchdowns. When Bateman received a scholarship offer from the University of Minnesota, he committed himself wholeheartedly to the program, confident in his decision to play college football there. He showed unwavering dedication to his commitment in spite of late recruiting interest from several top-level college programs after his productive senior season, which saw him named first team All-State, notably for achieving 83 passes for 1,539 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Bateman continued his ascent at the University of Minnesota, immediately setting freshman records for the Golden Gophers with 51 receptions, 704 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. His sophomore year proved even more successful. Named a semi-finalist for the prestigious Fred Biletnikoff Award and first team All-Big Ten with teammate Tyler Johnson, Bateman also became the Richter–Howard Receiver of the Year, securing sophomore records with 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Despite adversity in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting the Big Ten’s decision to cancel the season, Bateman demonstrated resilience. He ultimately rejoined the team when the decision was reversed for a shortened season.

The pivotal moment in his career came when Bateman was selected by the Baltimore Ravens as the 27th overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft – the first Gopher to achieve this honor since Laurence Maroney in 2006. His dedication was rewarded with a $12.6 million contract, inclusive of a $6.5 million signing bonus.

Bateman’s first NFL season was not without challenges as he sustained a groin injury and underwent surgery. He proved his mettle by bouncing back from the injury and made significant contributions to the Ravens. His first NFL touchdown and achieving his first 100-yard game were notable highlights of Bateman’s inaugural professional football season.

Migrating into a full-time starting position, Bateman’s impressive performances, especially in the 2022 season, firmly established him as a standout receiver. However, his rising trajectory was hampered by a foot injury, necessitating surgery and ending his season. Nevertheless, he finished strong with significant game statistics.

In 2023, despite missing a couple of games, Bateman made significant contributions to his team with at least one reception recorded in almost all games. His singular touchdown of the season contributed to a resounding win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Turning adversity into opportunity, Bateman signed a notable three-year $15 million contract extension through the 2026 season in April 2024.
