Randy Bullock's Biography

The tale of Randy Bullock’s journey as an acclaimed American football placekicker unfolds with his birth in Lafayette, Louisiana, on December 16, 1989. He spent his formative years in Klein, Texas, in the vicinity of Houston, nurturing his love for football. His impressive high backing him to rank would later become a significant stepping stone in his career.

Randy attended Klein High School, where his affinity for football evolved into a passionate pursuit of the sport. His consistent performance led to recognition as the fourth-ranked kicker in the nation upon his high school graduation. For this, he received at least six formal scholarship offers, presenting him with several potential avenues to navigate his future endeavors.

Choosing Texas A&M University for further studies, Randy played for the Texas A&M Aggies football team between 2008 and 2011. His senior season in 2011 brought him extensive acknowledgment due to his successful completion of 29 out of 33 field goal attempts. Consequently, he was awarded the esteemed Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s finest college football placekickers. This triumphant victory augmented with being recognized as a consensus first-team All-American in the same year, made his college experience a memorable one.

Randy’s career at Texas A&M impressed his peers and mentors alike, as he became the all-time scoring leader at the university with 365 points in 46 collegiate games. He also touched the inspiring milestone of achieving 63 field goals, a Texas A&M record during his tenure there. Randy’s legacy continues to inspire athletes at his alma mater as his records for consecutive extra points and most extra points at Texas A&M persist unbroken.

After a fruitful college career, Randy participated in the 2012 NFL draft and was selected by the Houston Texans in the fifth round, gaining the status as the first-ever kicker picked by the team. He was examined and applauded for his formidable leg strength in both field goals and kickoffs and his accuracy in long and short kicks alike. NFL draft analysts also commented on his consistent and controlled approach for each kick, which helps him avoid blocks.

Emerging as a talented newcomer, Randy actively vied with veteran Shayne Graham for the placekicker position. He had made three successful attempts out of four in the preseason, majorly from over 50 yards. However, Randy’s kickstarted rookie season was cut short when he sustained a groin tear that led to him being placed on the injured reserve list on August 26, 2012.

Undeterred by this setback, Randy resumed his career the following season, fully recovered and as resolute as ever. During the 2013 preseason, he scored on six of his seven field goal attempts, including a long one from 55 yards out.
The winning streak continued in Week 1 of the 2013 regular season, as his field goal from 41 yards helped the Texans make the most significant comeback in their history. Despite missing three long field goals in Week 2, one could not disregard his consistency that earned him the nickname “Fat Randy”.

Randy concluded the 2013 season on a strong note by making 12 consecutive field goals after early struggles in only two of his games. His performance carried on seamlessly into the 2014 season, where he broke the Texans’ franchise record for the most consecutive field goals. Unfortunately, his streak was interrupted due to a blocked field goal with a missed blocking assignment against the Oakland Raiders.

By the end of his NFL career, Randy found himself within the Top (10) NFL kickers, based on a field goal percentage of 4 out of 5 attempts, through the 2015 season. Following this, he became a free agent when Nick Novak replaced him.

Randy’s relentless pursuit of the sport continued as he signed with the Tennessee Titans in September 2021 despite his release from the Titans in February 2023. He eventually returned to the Giants when starting kicker Graham Gano got injured, only to fall prey to a hamstring injury soon after.

Despite the turbulent journey, Randy found solace in his personal life as he married his wife Hailey on March 8, 2020. They welcome their first child, Briar Kate Bullock, born on February 7, 2022. His story stands as an example of persisting in the face of adversity, finding balance, and leaving an indelible mark in their chosen field.
