Peter Bowden's Biography

Born on January 24th, 2001, Peter Bowden from San Diego, California, is known for his exceptional prowess in American professional football as a respected long snapper. He was endowed with an athletic inclination during his student years at Francis Parker School in San Diego and was able to transform that passion into a successful career in American football. This journey through American football took him through college championships, ultimately leading to the professional league.

The journey began during his freshman years in high school, where he sparked an interest in long snapping to aid his cousin, Ryan Sanborn, an aspiring punter on the verge of collegiate recruitment. Coincidentally, Sanborn’s impressive skills in punting would lead to his signing with the Atlanta Falcons in the year 2024.

Bowden’s long snapping prowess caught the attention of the football squad in his school. This led to him securing the long-desired position of starting varsity due to a sudden onslaught of injuries within the team. From this moment on, Bowden maintained this position all through his time at Francis Parker, showcasing his talents in other team positions as well, ranging from the offensive line to defense. This versatile skill set, amassing 63 impressive tackles and 6.0 sacks in his final senior year, confirmed Bowden’s steady growth in his football journey.

Displaying leadership skills on and off the pitch, Bowden captained the football team, and his growing reputation remained untarnished with a perfect record on all 227 snaps throughout his career. More so, Bowden’s sporting talents were not limited to the football pitch alone as he played baseball for three consecutive years.

In recognition of his outstanding performances, Bowden secured a resounding ranking as a five-star prospect according to Chris Rubio’s long snapping camp and Kohl’s kicking. This afforded him an irresistible offer to walk-on and play college football for the Wisconsin Badgers.

Taking a short breather, Bowden redshirted in 2019 before serving as a backup to Adam Bay in 2020 without any significant playing time. Despite the setback, he was awarded an athletic scholarship the same year. In 2021, he bounced back strong, taking the starting job and featuring in all 13 games that season.

His performance improved drastically in 2022, making appearances in all 13 games and coupling that with a nomination as a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award – an award recognizing the nation’s best long snapper. With the option of entering the 2023 NFL draft, Bowden chose education and decided to remain in college to focus on his graduation.

Upcoming seasons saw Bowden maintain his ubiquitous presence across all games and was once again nominated as one of the three finalists for the Patrick Mannelly Award. Consequently, after a prolific college football journey adding up to 39 career games played, Bowden declared himself for the much-anticipated NFL draft.

His inclusion in the 2024 Senior Bowl elevated his reputation and potential in the NFL draft, with Dane Brugler of The Athletic considering Bowden as the best long snapper on the rooster, as well as the only player with a draftable grade in his position. Though he wasn’t drafted, he was quickly snatched up by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent, marking the beginning of his professional journey.

However, his time with the Packers was a tumultuous one. After being released on July 23, 2024, he was re-signed a week later, only to be released again on August 14, 2024. The Jacksonville Jaguars would later offer a lifeline, signing Peter to their practice squad on November 5, 2024. Despite this brief stint ending a week later, Bowden’s fearless determination and exceptional talent underscored his journey from grass to grace in American professional football.
