BIOGRAPHY

Osirus Mitchell’s journey in the field of American football began on September 15, 1998, in the sun-soaked city of Sarasota, Florida. Born and bred in an athletic environment, Mitchell spent his youth cultivating an instinct for the high octane sport. He attended Booker High School, where he started to draw national attention due to his notable talent in the demanding and competitive sport of football. As a senior, Mitchell had an impressive average of 21.7 yards per catch along with 25 touchdown receptions, only further establishing his reputation as a promising player.

Despite his prowess in the field, Mitchell wasn’t heavily pursued by college recruiters initially due to academic uncertainties. Undeterred, Mitchell graduated from high school the summer following his senior year. His resilience paid off when in June, he signed the coveted Mississippi State football roster, choosing it over significant offers from Texas a&m, Tennessee, South Florida, Minnesota, Central Florida, Wake Forest, and Illinois.

Mitchell’s college career at Mississippi State was a testament to hard work and perseverance. After a necessary redshirt in his freshman season, he sprung into action in the next season. He participated in nine games, making five receptions that led to a 51-yard gain. Over time, he carved a niche for himself in the team, leading the Bulldogs in his redshirt sophomore and junior season with quite an impressive stats: making 26 receptions for 427 yards and four touchdowns in his sophomore year and 430 receiving yards with six touchdown receptions in his junior year.

As a redshirt senior, he raked in 47 receptions for 505 yards along with four touchdowns, including a career highlight of seven receptions accumulating 183 yards in two touchdowns in a 44-34 victory against the defending national champion, LSU.

After the rigorous grind of college football, the Dallas Cowboys picked up the undrafted Mitchell as a free agent on May 14, 2021. However, his journey in Dallas was short-lived, having waived him on August 31, 2021, followed by a brief spell at their practice squad. Mitchell finally saw the end of his Cowboys journey, being released on December 20, 2021.

Destiny next steered Mitchell to the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL) in the 15th round of the 2022 USFL draft. Proving his mettle once again, Mitchell made 23 receptions for 333 yards and three touchdowns. His four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown against the New Orleans Breakers helped the Stallions seal a decisive playoff victory, crowning them as the USFL champions.

In July 2022, Mitchell made a brief transition to the Green Bay Packers. Hindered by an injury, he was released by the Packers in August the same year and placed on injured reserve until September 2022. Mitchell found his next professional home with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL, signing with them on February 1, 2023. Unfortunately, he was released during the final roster cuts, ten days after joining the XFL.

Maintaining his resilience, Mitchell signed with the Memphis Showboats, also part of the USFL, on March 30, 2023. He participated in 10 games, made one start and had 12 receptions for 159 yards. Sadly, Mitchell didn’t find a place in the roster for the 2024 UFL dispersal draft on January 15, 2024.

Despite the ups and downs, Mitchell’s professional football journey is an inspiring saga of grit, perseverance and an undying passion for the game. He managed to build an impactful career, beginning as a three-star recruit and making his mark in the world of American football. His tale is a testament to his talent and boundless potential, paving the way for what lies ahead in his invigorating journey.
