Marquez Callaway's Biography

Marquez Antonio Callaway, born on March 27, 1998, is a recognizable figure in the sphere of American football. A wide receiver, he occupies the limelight for his outstanding talent and formidable playing order. Callaway’s exceptional skills have seen him enjoy a fulfilling career, starting with his high school years at Warner Robins High School in Warner Robins, Georgia, where his leverage in the world of football commenced. As a 4-star recruit, his exceptional skills saw him secure offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and more, eventually committing to the University of Tennessee.

From 2016 through to 2019, Callaway found his footing in college football under head coaches Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt at the University of Tennessee. An impressive tally marked his success – 92 receptions, 1,646 yards, and 13 receiving touchdowns. With these achievements, he solidified his name amongst the football elites, and this dedication led to his signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent post the 2020 NFL draft.

Callaway made his NFL debut in Week 2 against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he demonstrated exceptional skills on offense and special teams. His first professional reception, a 16-yard catch, saw in a victory against the Detroit Lions. Moreover, in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers, he made a significant contribution with four receptions for 34 yards.

Another remarkable event in Callaway’s career was when he caught Drew Brees’ 7,000th completion in a game against the Carolina Panthers in October 2020. He not only finished the game with eight receptions for 75 yards, both team highs, but also weathered significant events like being placed on injured reserve and being reactivated. His rookie season showcased intense resolve and immense talent. In 11 games, he finished with 21 receptions and 213 receiving yards.

With the dawn of the 2021 season, Callaway’s role witnessed expansion, and his first professional touchdown came in a seven-yard reception that led to a victory over the New England Patriots in Week 3. His first multi-touchdown game against the Washington Football Team and excellent performance against Tampa Bay Buccaneers added feathers in his cap. His stellar performance continued throughout the season, with him featuring in all 17 games and garnering a total of 46 receptions, 698 receiving yards, and six touchdowns.

However, the 2022 season challenged Callaway but wasn’t without highlights. He featured in 14 games, making 16 receptions for 158 receiving yards and scoring one touchdown. Nevertheless, his time with the New Orleans Saints came to an end, and he became a free agent in March 2023. His journey then led him to the Denver Broncos, but he was ultimately waived in August the same year. He got a foothold again when he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad, but this stint proved short-lived, and he was released in October.

Callaway’s football journey continued when he returned to the Saints’ practice squad in November 2023, where he played three games for the season. However, with no reserve/future contract signed, he became a free agent at its end. In January 2024, he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers under a reserve/futures contract, which again proved ephemeral when he was released in July that year. Despite the tribulations, his tenacity saw him signing and playing again with the New Orleans Saints in August 2024, even though this engagement too was cut short, and he was again released within 10 days.
