Marcell Harris's Biography

Marcell Harris, a prominent figure in the American football sphere, was born on June 9, 1994. As a distinguished sportsman in the field of football, Harris holds a significant place among other professionals due to his unrivaled skills and exceptional dedication. Throughout his career, he has positioned himself as an excellent linebacker who continues to demonstrate extraordinary dexterity.

Harris began nurturing his football maneuvers at college level in Florida. His impressive performance as a college football player is marked by the record of 102 tackles along with two interceptions which he accomplished during the years 2014 to 2016. His promising trajectory was briefly interrupted by a torn Achilles tendon injury which forced him to sit out for the entire 2017 season.

The twist in his professional life came in 2018 when the San Francisco 49ers selected him in the sixth round as the 184th overall pick during the NFL draft. His football journey however faced another temporary halt as he was placed on the injured reserve list on September 3, 2018. Harris’s time on the list didn’t last long; as per November 1, 2018, he was activated off the injured reserve, leading to his placement on the active roster.

In an unforgettable incident during Week 16 against the Chicago Bears, Harris made a late hit on Mitchell Trubisky. The action resulted in him being fined $10,026 six days later. Eventually, his tenure with the 49ers was disrupted. On August 31, 2019, Harris was let go by the team but was signed to the practice squad a day after.

Harris’s evolution from the practice squad to the active roster in the 49ers took place shortly after, on October 3, 2019. This marked his return to the main frame of the gameplay. Moreover, during Week 13 versus the Baltimore Ravens, Harris ingeniously forced a fumble on quarterback Lamar Jackson, an act which saw him recover the football during a close 20-17 road loss. Despite the loss, his team secured a place at Super Bowl LIV, though they lost 31-20 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

With a determination to continue his journey with the 49ers, Harris signed a one-year contract extension on March 5, 2021. In an interesting shift in his football journey, reports surfaced at the beginning of the 2021 NFL season of Harris switching his position from strong safety to linebacker.

However, on April 25, 2022, marking a significant transformation in his career, Harris penned a contract with the New York Jets. His association with the Jets was tumultuous, marked by him being released during final roster cuts on August 30 and re-signing with the team on September 1. This was shortly followed by his release on November 24 and his subsequent reassignment to the practice squad.

Ultimately, on November 21, 2023, Harris was enlisted in the Houston Texans practice squad. Following the expiry of his practice squad contract after the season, he didn’t secure a reserve/future contract. As a result, Marcell Harris found himself as a free agent in the professional football arena, providing him the opportunity to explore new potentials in his career.
