Raised in Gary, Indiana, Johnson acquired his early education at the West Side Leadership Academy. His primary goal was to feature prominently in their college football team. However, as life frequently presents unpredictable twists, Johnson made the decision to decommit, preferring instead to join San Bernardino Valley College.

Upon joining San Bernardino Valley College in 2014, Johnson actively participated in the team both as a wide receiver and a member of the special teams. The next milestone in his collegiate journey led him to attend Garden City Community College in 2015 and 2016. However, during his stint there, he made the conscious decision to step back from the field in 2016. Instead, Johnson chose to focus heavily on his academic pursuits.

The Texans acquired this pick from the Seattle Seahawks in a significant trade involving Duane Brown. Shortly after on May 10, 2019, Johnson officially commenced his professional journey by signing his rookie contract.

Johnson proved his worth during an unforgettable Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the Texans’ disappointing 51-31 loss, Johnson managed to return a blocked punt for a 25-yard touchdown. However, his performance was marred by his inability to cover Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce, which many cited as a significant reason for the Chiefs’ comeback victory.

Demonstrating his resilience, Johnson was traded on May 2, 2022, to the Chiefs in exchange for a 2024 conditional seventh-round pick. Unfortunately, after being waived in August of the same year, he was claimed off waivers by the Tennessee Titans a day later, only to be placed on injured reserve in November, and subsequently activated in December.

Continuing to prove his worth and valiantly fighting setbacks, Johnson inked a one-year contract on March 21, 2023, with the New Orleans Saints. In Line with his fiercely independent spirit, he returned to the Texans on a similar one-year deal on March 15, 2024. Although released during roster cuts in August, his journey was far from over.

After being signed to the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad on August 28, 2024, Johnson ascended to the active roster by September 10.
