Kyler Fackrell's Biography

Kyler Bruce Fackrell was born on November 25, 1991, in Mesa, Arizona. The American footballer played for his high school football team at Mesa High School where he contributed as a linebacker, quarterback, and wide receiver. In his senior year, his team reached the second position in the state playoffs, and Fackrell accomplished 68 tackles and five touchdowns as well as 22 successful rushes.

Despite his marked achievements, Fackrell’s recruitment was less than ideal after high school. He received only one division-one scholarship from Utah State, granted due to a connection his high school coach had with a coach at Utah State. His decision to accept the scholarship was not immediate – he took a year working as a house painter and deliberating whether to go on a Mormon mission before eventually accepting the offer.

Once at Utah State, his performance kept the school’s football enthusiasts at the edge of their seats. He distinguished himself as an excellent linebacker, leading his team with 13 tackles for loss, and making a name for himself by returning a 99-yard pass for his first touchdown. However, in his junior year, an ACL injury lay him off for the rest of the season.

In the following season, Fackrell made a strong comeback, ranking first in the country for fumble recoveries. His incredible performances continued to turn heads as he recorded record-breaking statistics and earned significant accolades, including being named to the All-Conference First team.

Entering the 2016 NFL draft, Fackrell was projected as a third-round pick by NFL analyst Lance Zierlein. Zierlein commended his tackling ability, and potential as a pass rusher. However, there were concerns about his age as he was one of the oldest players in the draft and the impact of his prior ACL injury on his performance.

Unexpectedly, Fackrell was drafted in the third round as the 88th overall pick by the Green Bay Packers. The move was critiqued for failing to address the need for an inside linebacker. Nonetheless, Fackrell continued to contribute notably to the team’s performances, achieving his first career sack on Detroit Lions’ quarterback Matthew Stafford.

In 2017, Fackrell ventured to the New York Giants under a one-year contract. Despite his notable contributions to the team, a calf injury led to his placement on the injured reserve list in December 2020. He rebounded from the injury and was activated in January 2021.

Fackrell’s journey then led him to the Los Angeles Chargers in March 2021. He, however, sustained an injury once more and was placed on injured reserve in December. His diligence and unwavering spirit allowed him to recover and return to the field by January 8, 2022.

In March 2022, the Las Vegas Raiders welcomed Fackrell with a one-year contract. Regrettably, his season ended prematurely due to an injury in July 2022, leading to his release in August. Undeterred, Fackrell was signed to the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad in September 2022. However, his stint with the Ravens was short-lived; he was released in the same month.
