Kevin Strong's Biography

Kevin Strong Jr., born on August 5, 1996, hails from a prestigious background of American football. He is known for his remarkable spell as a nose tackle. Currently a free agent, Kevin’s creation of an awe-inspiring career, despite going undrafted, is a testament to his skill, tenacity, and resilience.

Born and bred in the United States, the inception of Kevin’s football journey was marked by his enrolment at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He graduated in 2018, leaving a lasting impact and an irrefutable record of countless victories in the annals of the university’s football history.

Strong spent an impressive five seasons impacting the gridiron as a member of the UTSA Roadrunners. Not one to be discouraged, he accepted a redshirt during his freshman year, a delay in his play that would later become his stepping stone to unmatched success. As a junior, Strong won recognition, earning a spot on the second-team All-Conference USA. This acclaimed recognition was attributed to his extraordinary stats of making 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and three sacks.

Leaving a permanent imprint on the UTSA Roadrunners’ football legacy, Strong finished his collegiate career with noteworthy stats. He registered a total of 106 tackles, an impressive 26.5 of which were for loss, as well as 7.5 sacks. His fortitude translated to three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks over the span of 47 games, 40 of which he started.

Post-graduation, although he went undrafted, Strong’s consistent performance and evident prowess won him an undrafted free agent contract with the Detroit Lions. This leap in his career occurred on May 10, 2019. He made an unforgettable NFL debut on September 8, 2019, dominating the field against the Arizona Cardinals.

Despite a promising start, Strong’s first season was cut short by an injury that led to him being placed on the injured reserve on November 12, 2019. Despite the setback, he ended his rookie season with impressive stats. His record stood at five tackles and a pass defended in the eight games he played.

At the onset of the 2020 season, the Detroit Lions waived Strong. However, recognizing his potential, they quickly signed him to the practice squad the following day. His hard work paid off when he was promoted to the active roster on September 19 for a Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers. However, another setback occurred when he was returned to the practice squad after the game and later released by the Lions on November 11, 2020. Not one to back down, he signed back to the practice squad on December 1, 2020, and was promoted to the active roster the very next day.

One of the milestones in Strong’s career was recording his first career sack on Kirk Cousins during a game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17, although it resulted in a 37-35 loss.

In an unfortunate series of events, Strong landed on the injured reserve on September 25, 2021. Upon recovery, he was activated on November 2, 2021, but was waived again on November 20. Nevertheless, he soon found a new home for his talent as he signed with the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad on November 23, 2021. His persistent performance led to his promotion to the active roster on January 8, 2022.

Following a successful stint with the Titans, Strong signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals on March 15, 2023. His journey with the Cardinals, however, was relatively short-lived, and he was released on January 5, 2024.
