Joshua Elekwachi Kalu, known in his professional life as Josh Kalu, has crafted a noteworthy career in American football. Born on the 28th of August 1995, in Houston, Texas, Josh has made his mark not just as a successful football safety but also as a free agent. Despite his achievements, his journey to successful football has been marked by determination, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to excel in the sport he loves.

The early foundation of his passion for football can be traced back to his time at Alief Taylor High School in Alief, Texas, where he excelled as a safety. His talent stood out, paving his way to play college football at Nebraska. Here, Josh played as a defensive back for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team for a span of four years between 2014 to 2017. During this tenure, out of possible 49 games, Josh missed only three games due to an injury in his senior year. His exceptional performance saw him snag seven interceptions and 215 tackles, making a noticeable impact during his college football career.

However, his journey at Nebraska was not without challenges. Frequent staff turnovers led to Josh dealing with six different position coaches, an experience that prepared him for the changing dynamics of professional football. In 2017, Josh moved from playing cornerback to the safety position, a transition that added to his versatility as a football player.

Following his successful stint at the college level, Josh was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tennessee Titans on May 11, 2018, marking the start of his professional football career. His time with the Titans was marked by frequent changes as he was waived and re-signed multiple times throughout the year. Getting into the active roster in December of the same year, Josh primarily played in the special teams, demonstrating his adaptability.

However, Josh’s momentum in football was temporarily stalled as he was placed on injured reserve in September 2019. After a month of recovery, he returned to the practice field, eventually rejoining the 53-man roster for the Titans. His triumphant moment came during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs, concluding with a 35-32 upset victory where he notably blocked a game-tying field goal. Through the 2019 season, he amassed six tackles and one pass defense. In the following year, he broke his personal record with a career-high of 16 tackles.

In a significant career move, Josh signed with the New York Giants in March 2021. Tragedy struck in his first preseason game when he suffered a torn pectoral muscle, a significant setback resulting in him being placed on a season-ending injured reserve. Staying resilient in his journey, Josh changed teams, signing with the Titans for the second time in July 2022. His first career interception came in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers, an indication of his undeniable prowess and will to succeed.

One year later, Josh began another milestone when he signed with the Washington Commanders in August 2023. He was released later that month due to roster cuts, leading him to join the Miami Dolphins practice squad two days later. Rather disappointingly, this stint ended with Josh getting released on September 19. In an unexpected turn, he was signed back to the Commanders’ practice squad on October 10, 2023.

As of now, Josh has become a free agent, marking the conclusion of another season and the start of numerous possibilities.
