Josh Gordon

Joshua Caleb Gordon, known on the field as “Flash,” was born in Houston, Texas, on April 13, 1991, to Elaine and Herald Gordon. As a student at Lamar High School, he showcased his athletic prowess in football, basketball, and track. By his senior year, Gordon was counted among the best in District 20-5A after logging 25 receptions for 531 yards (21.2 average) and nine touchdowns in a single season. Notably, he executed strong performances in track & field, contributing to his team’s state title achievements in the Lamar 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m relay events.

Coaches from Baylor, Houston, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Texas Tech tracked Gordon’s college recruitment process very closely before he accepted a scholarship from Baylor University. There, he faced some disciplinary actions, including a suspension attributed to a drug-policy violation. Despite these setbacks, there were clear signs of his next-level potential.

In 2012, the Cleveland Browns plucked Gordon in the second round of the NFL Supplemental Draft. His rookie year with the Browns saw him finish amongst the top newcomers in the wide receiver category, with 50 catches, 805 yards, and five touchdowns. However, this early promise was undermined by Gordon’s off-field behavior that saw him suspended for multiple games.

Coming back strong in 2013, he led the NFL in receiving yards, earning him Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors. Despite these significant markers of success on the field, the subsequent years were tumultuous. Between 2014 and 2017, he only played 11 games for the Browns. His ongoing substance abuse troubles led to suspensions that caused him to miss the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Flash Gordon’s next professional move was to the New England Patriots in 2018. There, he continued to amaze on the field but couldn’t shake off controversies ashore. Despite his trade to the Patriots and later to the Seattle Seahawks, his recurring substance abuse issues resulted in another suspension in 2020.

Upon reinstatement in 2021, Gordon played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans for a season each. The following year, he signed with the Seattle Sea Dragons.

Outside of the game, Gordon is a Texan through and through. Born to Elaine and Herald Gordon, Gordon’s roots also extend to Haiti. He grew up with two brothers, contributing to the man he is today.
