Jason Myers's Biography

Jason Myers, born on May 12, 1991, has established himself as an esteemed player within American professional football. Currently, he holds the reputable position of placekicker for the Seattle Seahawks, a team in the acclaimed National Football League. His football journey, however, had humble beginnings.

Myers’ initiation into football began during his college years where he played for the Marist Red Foxes. After his college football career, Myers’ pathway to a professional career encountered an unexpected turn as he unfortunately received no attention from professional scouts. Determined, he returned back to the San Diego metropolitan area, earning a living by working as a valet. Despite this detour, Myers stayed true to his passion for football and continued refining his skills as a kicker with the guidance of Michael Husted, a former NFL kicker.

In an upcoming turn of event, on March 3, 2015, Myers was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, having proven his worth in a tryout at the 2015 Senior Bowl. With his determined disposition and unflinching perseverance, Myers earned the role of placekicker for Jaguars on August 31, 2015, after his competent teammate Josh Scobee was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the subsequent 2016 season, Myers demonstrated his placekicking prowess by leading the league with the most field goal attempts above 50 yards, which was recorded at 12, also scoring a respectable tie for second place on making seven of these attempted goals. His remarkable journey with the Jaguars came to a sudden halt on October 17, 2017, after he missed various critical long field goals in a crucial Week 6 match against the Los Angeles Rams.

Undeterred by the setback, Myers started the year 2018 with newfound hope and ambition when he signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks on January 3rd. In spite of his hard work, he was released by the Seahawks later that year, in August,since he was unable to secure the coveted starting kicking job, losing to the veteran Sebastian Janikowski. The next day, on August 21, 2018, he was quickly claimed off waivers by the New York Jets, where he soon became their starting kicker.

Myers’ career graph took an encouraging swing upwards when he broke the Jets’ franchise record for field goals with seven against the Indianapolis Colts on October 14, 2018, leading the Jets to victory. Owing to his excellent performance, Myers was granted the title of AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. His overall contributions to the 2018 season were recognized as he was a crucial factor in the Jets’ 30 of 33 extra point attempts and 33 of 36 field goal attempts. This impressive run led to Myers earning his spot in the AFC Pro Bowl roster for his achievements that season.

Inching forward in his journey, on March 14, 2019, Myers signed a hefty four-year deal with the Seahawks for $15.45 million. His career had its own fair share of ups and downs during the 2019 season, but notable was his game-winning 42-yard kick in overtime in a heated match against the San Francisco 49ers on November 11, which pushed the Seahawks’ record to 8–2 on the season. In this season, Myers accomplished 40 of 44 extra point attempts and 23 of 28 field goal attempts.

The next year, in 2020, Myers hit a career-high and Seahawks franchise record with a long 61-yard field goal in a Week 10 game against the Rams. The following month, he broke the previous Seahawks record for 31 consecutive successful field goals, originally held by Olindo Mare. He ended the season with a perfect record of making all 24 of his field goal attempts, and scored 49 out of 53 extra point attempts.

In 2021, despite a rough start with 4 misses in his first 10 tries, Myers ended the season on a successful run, making 11 of his last 13 attempts. He finished the 2021 season with 17 of his 23 field-goal attempts and 44 of his 47 extra-point attempts under his belt. The 2022 season was a memorable one for Myers – he was not only named a Pro Bowler but also led the NFL with a whopping 143 points.

He then signed another successful deal with the Seahawks on January 18, 2023, for a contact extension that made him the second highest-paid player in the league, trailing behind only Justin Tucker. He was also recognized as a team captain in September of that same year and went on to deliver some more admirable performances thereafter. In a game against the Washington Commanders in Week 10 of the 2023 season, Myers hit the game-winning field goal, helping to secure the Seahawks victory. Later in the week, he made another great performance by making 26 of 29 field-goal attempts and completed all 33 extra-point attempts in the 2023 season, marking a 100% rate also for the first time Myers did not miss an extra point in a season.
