Born on March 17, 1996, Jason W. Cabinda, is not only a seasoned professional American football fullback player but also a free agent with numerous accomplishments to his name. The narrative of his life and career in football paints a vivid picture of determination and skill, showcasing his journey from his early years in school football to his time with the Raiders and Lions, and his current status as a free agent.

Cabinda developed his interest in football at a young age. This passion was nurtured in high school when he attended Hunterdon Central Regional High School. At this pivotal time in his life, Jason portrayed his talent for the game. He led his team, the Red Devils, to a glorious victory at the Central Group V championship in 2013, scoring two impressive touchdowns in a clean sweep 21-0 victory over Manalapan High School. These were no small feats; they were defining moments that shaped his future career in football.

Jason’s impressive performance didn’t stop in high school. His prowess as a rusher kept everyone in awe as he totaled an impressive 3,417 yards from his sophomore to senior year, scoring an exceptional total of 47 touchdowns. These achievements were more than just numbers, they were testimonies of his outstanding talent, passion, and commitment.

After high school, Cabinda joined Penn State University and continued to leave his mark on the football field. He played a total of four seasons for the Nittany Lions, participating in 43 games, and commanding in 36 of them. He ended his Penn State career on a high note, ranking ninth all-time in career tackles with a substantial accumulation of 286 and was credited with six career sacks, 16.5 tackles for losses, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 11 passes defended, and a single interception. In 2016, due to his remarkable contribution, Cabinda was named Third-team All-Big Ten Conference by the coaches and received honorable mention All-Big Ten by the media.

In 2018, Jason seized the opportunity to widen his horizons in football by signing with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent. His journey with the Raiders, however, was marked by various milestones and challenges. After being waived in September 2018, he was signed to their practice squad the following day. However, his stint with the practice squad didn’t last long as he was promoted to the active roster in October.

The following year, Cabinda found himself on the move again when he was waived by the Raiders and, shortly after, signed to the Detroit Lions’ practice squad. His stint at the practice squad ended in December when he was promoted to the active roster. Jason’s time with the Lions was marked by significant developments. He was offered an exclusive-rights free agent tender in March 2021 and signed a one-year contract in April. In February 2022, he inked a two-year contract extension with the team.

Fast forward to August 2022, Jason found himself grappling with physical challenges when he was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list at the commencement of the season. He overcame this setback and was activated on November 12. However, his journey was marked by more ups and downs when he was placed on injured reserve in October 2023, activated, and then waived in December 2023. Pushing past these obstacles, Cabinda remained focused on his football passion and was re-signed to the practice squad at the beginning of 2024, allowing him to return to the active roster for week 17. Sadly, his practice squad contract expired after the season without a reserve/future contract, thrusting him into his current free agent status.

Apart from his vibrant professional football career, Jason’s private life also brings warmth to his story. He is a proud parent to a child and also holds close ties to his African roots, with his mother hailing from Cameroon.
