Jackson Carman's Biography

Jackson Carman, born on January 22, 2000, is currently part of the American professional football world as an offensive tackle for the celebrated Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). Carman’s entry into professional football was marked by his drafting by the Cincinnati Bengals, another NFL team, during the 2021 NFL draft’s second round.

The Fairfield, Ohio native’s initial foray into football took place in Fairfield High School, where he teamed up with Michigan’s Erik All and Cincinnati’s Malik Vann. Recognized for his talent, Carman was given a five-star recruit status and deemed Ohio’s best collegiate prospect. This high regard was affirmed by leading sports-focused outlets 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals. In spite of attractive offers from Ohio State and USC, Carman committed to Clemson to continue his football career at the collegiate level.

During his true freshman year, Carman showed considerable skill and determination, playing 209 total snaps in 13 games and celebrating a National Championship win with the Clemson Tigers in 2018. The following year, as a sophomore, he earned the starting left-tackle position and played in all 15 of Clemson’s games. Recognition for his efforts arrived in the form of a third-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) ranking. Moreover, he was added to the Outland Trophy watchlist.

Carman continued to demonstrate his potential during his junior season, starting all 12 games and achieving a second-team All-ACC ranking. On January 6, 2021, he expressed his intention to skip his senior year and enter the NFL draft, making a formidable career move.

Carman transitioned to the professional football realm when the Cincinnati Bengals, a prominent NFL team, selected him in the second round as the 46th overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft. Despite Jonah Williams maintaining his position as the Bengals’ starting left tackle, Carman secured a position as right guard. His rookie season saw him participate in all 17 games for Cincinnati, starting in six, and contributing in all four postseason games.

The 2022 season ushered in new changes for the Bengals. They signed free agent Alex Cappa, handed him the right guard position, and drafted Cordell Volson as guard in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. As Volson outperformed Carman for the starting left guard role, Carman was relegated to the bench. However, the season’s outlook took a turn when the Bengals found themselves dealing with multiple injuries late in the year. Carman was then called upon to replace Williams as left tackle during the Wild Card Round playoff win against the Baltimore Ravens, leading the Bengals into a highly anticipated matchup with the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round. Despite the sudden shift in lineup, Carman and the rest of the offensive line managed an impressive performance, racking up 172 team rushing yards and allowing only one sack, culminating in a 27-10 win.

The year 2023 saw Carman back to his backup right tackle role behind Williams. He saw limited game time, playing snaps in only two games throughout the season.

In 2024, during the Bengals’ first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carman had a disappointing performance, amassing three holding penalties and one false start penalty, contributing to a 17-14 loss. This led to the Bengals waiving Carman on August 23, 2024.

With the setback, Carman bounced back, joining the Miami Dolphins practice squad on September 17, 2024. His journey in the rough and dynamic world of professional football continues, as he remains a noticeable figure on the sports scene. With his incredibly exigent and diverse career track, he continues to live up to his five-star recruit status.
