J.C. Hassenauer's Biography

Born on September 15, 1995, James “J. C.” Hassenauer embarked on the journey of his football career, marking several notable teams with his presence. An American by nationality, Hassenauer’s life took a turn towards professional sports, more specifically, as a football center. His early days were definitely meritorious, having played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Despite the rigors and competition of college football, Hassenauer managed to lead his team in achieving national championships in 2015 and 2017.

Following his fruitful college career, Hassenauer threw himself into the deep waters of the professional world. As an undrafted free agent, he was signed by the Atlanta Falcons on April 30, 2018, after having completed four successful years at Alabama. However, a turn of events led him to be waived on September 1. Nevertheless, only a day later, he was signed onto the practice squad, where he devoted most of his season.

Hassenauer’s diligence led him to a new adventure in the Alliance of American Football as he signed with the Birmingham Iron after the conclusion of the season with the Atlanta Falcons. He made an impressive mark in the eight games that he played with the Birmingham Iron.

Exceptional performances with the Iron opened another door for Hassenauer in the form of a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which he signed on April 5, 2019. While he was waived on August 31, his time with the Steelers wasn’t over. As of November 20, he got another chance and was signed to their practice squad. Following a month of dedicated practice, Hassenauer was promoted to the active roster on December 24.

The pinnacle of Hassenauer’s career was a high-stake match against the Baltimore Ravens on December 2, 2020, where he made his first NFL start and led his team to a 19-14 victory. The following year, on March 8, 2021, Hassenauer signed a one-year contract extension with the Steelers. However, due to an injury, he was placed on an injured reserve on November 27, 2021. Nevertheless, he showed resilience as he was reactivated on December 25.

Hassenauer’s ever-evolving journey brought him to the New York Giants on April 7, 2023. Unfortunately, an untimely torn tricep resulted in him being placed on injured reserve on August 1, 2023.

By August 6, 2024, Hassenauer was in talks with the Washington Commanders and subsequently signed with them. However, a minor setback came on August 23, 2024, as he was released from the team.
