Carlins Platel

Carlins Platel was born on August 15, 1999, and he is an American professional football cornerback. His dedication to the game from a young age has seen him rise to the professional ranks, even as he was faced with numerous challenges in his career. Unlike many others, Platel wasn’t a highly ranked prospect coming out of high school, but that did not deter him from focusing on his football dream.

In 2017, he made his debut as a freshman at Assumption College, a university located near his hometown. Despite being overlooked by every major recruiting site, the budding cornerback was not phased. He was determined to make a name for himself and that he did. Platel played impressively throughout the season, earning himself a place on the NE10 All-Rookie Team.

For the next two years, Platel remained consistent, contributing significantly to the success of the Assumption Greyhounds. In his junior year, he managed to stand out in all 10 matches that he played, making the First Team All-NE10 as a junior. His performance was so impressive that he got named to the NE10 All-Star team, becoming one of the few athletes to achieve this feat at such a young age.

However, in 2020, Carlins Platel faced a significant setback due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The disease’s widespread nature resulted in Assumption College canceling their football season. Faced with this unexpected challenge, Platel, armed with his determination, decided to transfer to South Carolina as a graduate in 2021.

As a newcomer to the South Carolina Gamecocks, Platel made a significant impact. In 2021, he secured a starting position in seven games playing at the nickel position. He clocked 21 tackles and forced two fumbles, both against Kentucky. His performance in South Carolina stamped his place as one of the promising cornerbacks in college football.

Following his successful one-year stint with South Carolina, Platel decided to take his career a notch higher. He entered the 2022 NFL Draft hopeful of landing a professional contract. However, despite going undrafted, the Pittsburgh Steelers saw his potential and signed him as an undrafted free agent. The cornerback kicked off the 2022 season as the Steelers’ third nickel corner behind renowned players like Arthur Maulet and Tre Norwood. However, an unfortunate knee injury during the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions saw him side-lined for the rest of the season.

Platel’s journey with the Pittsburgh Steelers came to an end in March 2023, when they released him and William Jackson III. Nevertheless, this setback did not mark the end of his football career. He signed with the Philadelphia Stars of the United States Football League (USFL) in June of the same year.

He faced yet another hurdle almost immediately after joining the Stars, as he was placed on the inactive roster on the same day he signed. Despite the setback, Platel kept his head high. He moved north of the border a year later, signing with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) on February 1, 2024. Unfortunately, his stay with the Stampeders was rather brief. Carlins Platel was released on May 27, 2024.

Even with his journey filled with setbacks and challenges, Carlins Platel’s story is a testament to his determination and commitment to his passion for football.
