Anthony Averett

Anthony Averett is an American football cornerback from Woodbury, New Jersey, who played college football at Alabama. He was listed at 6-foot-0 on Alabama’s 2017 roster and developed into a starting defensive back for the Crimson Tide. Alabama’s official bio describes him as a physical corner who contributed in coverage and run support, including a senior-season interception and recognition from the coaching staff for performances against Fresno State and Mississippi State.

The Baltimore Ravens selected Averett in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft with the 118th overall pick. He spent his first four NFL seasons in Baltimore before joining the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. The Steelers’ official signing announcement records his later stints with the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions in 2023, as well as his career experience primarily as a cornerback in defensive coverage.

Pittsburgh signed Averett to a one-year contract on May 12, 2024. The Steelers later terminated his contract on August 20, 2024; their transaction log also records that he had been signed to the practice squad in late August before that termination. These dated records establish his Pittsburgh affiliation in 2024 but do not establish a current team as of September 20, 2026.
