Greg Senat's Biography
Gregory Senat, born on September 8, 1994, is a professional American football player recognized for his position as an offensive tackle. Currently, he is a free agent, having played for multiple teams over his career. But before becoming a valued player in the football industry, he was known for another sport entirely: basketball.
Senat’s passion for sports began at a young age, while he was a student at Elmont Memorial High School and involved avidly in basketball. In fact, in his last two years of school, he joined the junior varsity football team as a tight end, and he practiced lacrosse from 7th to 10th grade, providing an ample foundation for his future athletic pursuits.
Following his junior year, Senat made the strategic decision to enroll at Marianapolis Preparatory School, where he participated in the NEPSAC conference. This move was designed to not only increase his exposure to college recruiters but also to further cultivate his love of basketball.
His dedication paid off and he was offered a basketball scholarship from Wagner College, where he proudly served as a power forward for four consecutive seasons. As a senior in 2016, he was instrumental in helping his team clinch the Northeast Conference regular-season basketball championship, and that year, the team recorded a 23-11 record and earned the school’s first-ever post-season victory. This momentous win occurred in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament against St. Bonaventure University.
However, in the same year, Senat decided to expand his athletic portfolio by joining the football team. His impressive size and demonstrated athletic ability at the Football Championship Subdivision level paved the way for him to start all 22 games at right tackle over two seasons. In recognition of his skills, he was invited to participate in the East-West Shrine All-Star Football Game, becoming the first player from a Northeast Conference school to achieve that honor.
The following years brought an exciting career progression for Senat. In 2018, he was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the NFL draft, 212th overall. However, shortly after being drafted, he was placed on injured reserve due to foot surgery.
Despite an unforeseen setback, Senat resumed his journey in professional football and was picked up by Kansas City Chiefs in September 2019. His tenure with the Chiefs was marked with a Super Bowl LIV victory, an achievement every professional football player aspires to reach. However, due to persistent injuries, Senat was waived in 2020.
Thereafter, he joined the practice squad of the Cleveland Browns and later joined the Dallas Cowboys in October 2020, where he played in 10 games, mainly on special teams units. Following a stint in Dallas, Senat returned to the Browns on a one-year deal in March 2021. Unfortunately, a knee injury led him back to the injured reserve list.
His resilient spirit remained undaunted. Senat joined the Indianapolis Colts practice squad in October 2021, climbed up to the active roster by December, but was waived just after a few days.
As of January 2022, Senat found a new home with the New York Jets, and in April he confirmed his intention to continue with the Jets by re-signing with the team. However, by July, he was on the reserve/non-football injury list, marking the end of his season. A year later, he was eventually released by the team in August 2023.
Senat’s journey through various teams over the years reveals a story of resilience and determination. His Haitian descent and commitment to philanthropy through his support of the Hope for Haiti charity are important facets of his person. Throughout challenges and changes, Senat continues to show his enduring passion for the game, leaving an indelible mark wherever he goes.
